I think WinterStorm is booking his tickets to Jwar Isle as we speak! Yeah, that Sphinx is nasty and Mindstorms has strong enough early game control to get there too. I have said since even before the expansion came out that Mindstorms is sorely underrated, so glad to see it doing so well here against 'the big boys'.

Yeah I was among those who underrated MS.  Drawing cards is strong, and MS makes up in card quantity what it sometimes lacks in card quality (I am looking at you, steamcore weird).

dh50 defeats Kn1ghtmare 2-0

I played Mindstorms, Kn1ghtmare played SS both games.  These were both very long drawn out games; I changed my build significantly to be much more creature based because I was worried about Kn1ghtmare playing Pack Instinct, which I think performs extremely well against a burn only version of Mindstorms.

Game 1 - this game was one of the longer games I've played.  I was stuck on 4 mana for a long time and was knocked down to 6 life for the majority of the game.  I had a pretty decent hand of almost entirely 5cc cards.  Eventually I got the 5th land, but at that point Kn1ghtmare had a ridiculous amount of mana - putting him well out of mana leak range.  My first play at 5 mana was to play a Prophetic Bolt to kill Drana, who had been working me over for a turn.  And at this point, I had strong card advantage, due to Compulsive Research and Kn1ghtmare having used removal on the only creatures I could play previously (pingers + Steamcore Wierds + Lightning Elemental, which I cast after my combat phase for reasons unknown to me).  I then cast a Spellbound Dragon, fed it at mana leak because I was concerned about removal and the rest of my hand was great.  It got removed.  I cast a second Spellbound Dragon, fed it another mana leak, it got hit with a Diabolic Edict.  This pattern of play / remove continued a while, with Kn1ghtmare at some point using both Pernicious Deeds as well.  The turning point came when Kn1ghtmare cast a Pelakka Worm and put Rancor on it.  I had been holding onto a Time Warp, Reverberate and 2 Acts of Treason.  It turned out I drew a burn spell as well, so I won the game with the first Act of Treason + burn.

Game 2 - this was also a long, very good game.  I noticed that Kn1ghtmare missed his 3rd land drop, so when he played a forest on turn 4, I mana leaked his Dryad to prevent the ramp - putting me with 5 land and him with 3.  I had a Spellbound Dragon which I chose not to play, because I had an additional mana leak, a Prophetic Bolt, and an Act of Treason - I was hoping he would play a Yavimaya Elder and I would burn him if he did not.  He then played an Elder but tapped out to do it.  I cast Act of Treason on it, attacked, then sacced it for the land and the draw, giving me a huge land advantage.  The next turn, I cast the Dragon, but he hit his 4th land drop, and cast Consuming Vapors - and in retrospect makes my entire land denial strategy appear to be fairly silly.  He hit most of his land drops after that.  However, I had both fairly good card advantage thanks to Compulsive Research, and a ton of mana.  I laid down Gelectrode and a Lightning Elemental, he laid down a Veridian Emissary and a Pernicious Deed.  I don't remember the exact sequence of events, but he only had 3 untapped lands to pop the deed, one short of killing Lightning Elemental.  When I cast Time Warp, and Reverberated it, rather than take the damage from Gelectrode, he popped the Pernicious Deed which tapped him out and left me with Lightning Elemental.  He had a ton of life but I cast a Dominus on the next turn and that + Lightning Elemental + maybe some burn, I don't remember, was enough to finish the game.

Great games Kn1ghtmare -  these were 2 of the most competitive games I've played!

Accepted.. not sure if I'll be able to play now, as my PC is in the bedroom, and my gf has to get up early tomorrow (I'm in Northern Europe), but if we can't make it happen tomorrow under these circumstances, I'll just move my rig to another part of the appartment.

Drogo defeats dh50 2-0.

Game 1: My Odric vs. his Izzet.

I have a pretty decent hand of Hawk, Hawk, Crusader, Anthem, Pacifism, land.     I assumed he would play Mindstorms since BR was his other deck and it doesn't match up very well with PK.    If I get an Honor or Anthem to hit, the match up against MS becomes in my favour.   If I don't it is much more even, based on my experience of PK vs. MS (which is limited).     Given that I expected MS my goal with that hand was to get the Anthem to resolve.    It didn't really matter though since he jammed at two mana for quite some time.    He mana leaked a couple things and combined a razofin hunter with some cheap burn once he hit 3 land to do an excellent job of damage control but with the Anthem out he can't really get the 2 for 1 or 3 for 1's to catch up. A Monk and then a pacifism on a dragon clears the way for lethal.

Game 2: Odric vs. Izzet again.

I have a hand of 4 plains, Dawn Elemental, Accorder, Hawk.   Not great, I'd mull it for sure except for the elemental.    He has no way to remove it once it hits so I decide to keep and see if I can get it to resolve.     He electrolyzes a pally/hawk but after he casts something on his turn (compulsive research I believe) I drop the Elemental.    It swings once or twice then he drops Izzet.   I add a couple raise the alarm tokens at the end of his turn, journey izzet and swing for 6 or 7 with the tokens, hawk and elemental to put him to 1.    He Prophetic Bolts me, then Warps and I start doing math in my head wondering if he can somehow kill me with Insurection and burn.    It doesn't happen though and game 2 is in the books.

Thanks for the games dh50, I could tell your draws weren't great.

Drogo stomps dh50 2-0.

Both games I played Mindstorms, he played Peacekeepers.  I wasn't thrilled about this matchup but in my tests, Berserker Rage performed so poorly against Peacekeepers that I felt like I had no other option.

Game 1

I mana leaked some hawks.  I also pinged myself wiith a Razorfin Hunter.   Drogo played anthem after anthem after anthem and overran me with a wave of soldiers.  I'm pretty sure I cast Prophetic Bolt on myself to end my pain early.  Even though we played just 5 minutes ago, I blissfully have no other memory of this game.

Game 2

This game Drogo didn't get an anthem.  He did play a Dawn Elemental after I burned some of his soldiers, played a swarm of hawks, and a Geist Honored Monk.  I had some burn, a Time Warp, a Sphinx, a Dragon...I think I played the burn to the face and the Time Warp  and then realized I had no real option to win.  I felt like I misplayed both games, and it certainly didn't help me that Drogo performed flawlessly.

Great games, Drogo and good luck playing the rest of the tournament!

My draws were fine; my plays were not.  I feel like someone cast Act of Treason on my brain.  Good luck- you were an outstanding opponent.

Auto pilot mode engaged for the tournament?

Well done to those who keep advancing, and showing off the Mindstorms tricks. I may be out but I'm keeping an eye on the progress!
