Arright, Arright. Listen to this. I was working on a pack rat deck until now and I had some free time so I decided to start think of a way to make a nice  Spirits without Geists (pleasre disregard the angels, I don't know what else to put in and she's a decent block) . I had to stray from the pure UW path, and delve into some black for the flashback of lingering. I present to you.

"That Damn Pike Seeker"

Creatures:
4 x Latch Seeker
4 x Drogskol Captain
2 x Dungeon Geists
2 x Restoration Angel
2 x Keening Apparition

Instants/Sorcery:
2 x Cackling Counterpart
4 x Azorius Charm
2 x Think Twice
2 x Forbidden Alchemy
4 x Lingering Souls
2 x Supreme Verdict
2 x Essence Scatter
2 x Unsummon

Equipment:
2 x Runechanter's Pike

Lands:
4 x Glacial Fortress
4 x Hallowed Fountain
4 x Drowned Catacomb
2 x Swamp
5 x Plains
5 x Islands

Honest opinion on this, I haven't even playtested it. But I just had a random idea and felt like posting it.

Without having play tested the Delver of Secrets version yet, I feel like it may suffer from having too few creatures. At 14 creatures, there is a 20% chance of only drawing one creature in the first 11 cards. Considering that Rootborn Defenses can be considered a partial creature, and that Azorius Charm has the potential for drawing a card, maybe we can call it 15 creatures, which improves the chance to 17%.

I'm beginning to think I need to put at least 2, maybe 3, Cackling Counterpart back in. Or some other creature, like Fettergeist . Or Midnight Haunting .

If you were to put Cackling Counterpart back in, that would make the Rootborn Defenses more worth while.  I've never been a fan of Fettergeist , mostly because of the tax just to keep it in play.

I myself am a fan of the Doomed Traveler .  When I play with him and I have things to bolster spirits, I find people don't block them unless they absolutely have to.  Fear tactics, man.  :P

Custom Races
Kt'Lahn (Last Update: Oct 22, 2010)
Noble tiger people who will do almost anything to maintain honor.

Custom Classes
Soulforged (Last Update:  Jul 23, 2010)
Incarnum Defender

PEACH if you would.

I agree and in the latest version (sorry things are changing so quickly), I have 2x Cackling Counterpart and 3x Rootborn Defenses . The downside is that Azorius Charm had to go.

I ordered him but haven't tried a version with him in yet. Moreover, I already have 8x three-mana creature drops ( Drogskol Captain and Geist of Saint Traft ).

One thing I do like about Fettergeist is that he helps against Knight of Infamy , which otherwise can be a real pain for this deck. Maybe I'll try sideboarding 3x Fettergeist instead of 3x Knight of Glory . I could see Fettergeist being a decent blocker. With Favored Winds he'd stop a Loxodon Smiter too (at least before Rancor and Silverblade Paladin ). But I'm realing liking Augur of Bolas right now, and think he'll probably be better than Delver of Secrets . Getting card advantage by one or two cards in the is always nice.

In theory I like him. In practice, he falls victim to Pillar of Flame too often, and then that's all he does: Trades for one Pillar of Flame .

For now anyway, I have put a constraint that I'm not splashing black. But let us know how you do when you start playtesting.

This is the latest list. I'm not super-happy with it and will probably abandon this deck design after this FNM. I learned the following from play testing:

- 14 creatures is not enough, even with Cackling Counterpart and Rootborn Defenses . I just had too many games with nothing to play. This means I must have Midnight Haunting .

- I need about 8x 1-mana instants to protect Drogskol Captain , who likes to come out on T4 after Geist of Saint Traft on T3. Since he is an instant hate target, I need a Faith's Shield or, less ideal, Unsummon to protect him.

Both of the above rule out  Azorius Charm and Feeling of Dread , which are both very good card.

Having tried both Delver of Secrets and Augur of Bolas , I prefer the latter because he activates more often and the card draw is nice advantage.

Things to play with:

- Replace Cackling Counterpart with Azorius Charm or Feeling of Dread

- Cut back one of the enchantments to put in Sphinx's Revelation .  Mostly games are over within 5 turns, but there are exceptions.

- Maybe cut back one Unsummon and one Faith's Shield to put in 2x Azorius Charm . The latter is a better card than Unsummon once I'm past that critical T4.

- Cut out Drogskol Captain entirely.

- Replace Dungeon Geists with Sublime Archangel

"Spirit of Azorius" [current version]

Creatures (14)
4 x Augur of Bolas
4 x Geist of Saint Traft
2 x Dungeon Geists
4 x Drogskol Captain

Other (22)
3 x Midnight Haunting
2 x Cackling Counterpart
4 x Faith's Shield
3 x Favorable Winds
4 x Unsummon
3 x Spectral Flight
3 x Rootborn Defenses

Land (24)
9 x Island
5 x Plains
4 x Glacial Fortress
4 x Hallowed Fountain
2 x Cavern of Soul

Sideboard (15)
3 x Redirect
2 x Tormod's Crypt
3 x Divine Reckoning
3 x Knight of Glory
3 x Detention Sphere
1 x Sphinx's Revelation

Why not Dispel ? Could be useful here, at least as a SB card.

Largely because of Pillar of Flame , and other sorceries. In order for counterspells to be useful, they have to cover both instants and sorceries, which require two or three-mana cards. I have a lot of key three-mana cards ( Geist of Saint Traft , Drogskol Captain , Rootborn Defenses , Cackling Counterpart , and Midnight Haunting ), and in the critical phase of the game when I have only four lands, the difference between a one-mana and two-mana instant can be decisive. This is why, in the end, I went with Faith's Shield and Unsummon . I do have Redirect in the Sideboard.
