Should this allow you to play it for free or is it dependant on other effects?

I think it'd be wet if it allowed you to play it in addition to the first land you play, it is a legendary land after all.

"wet"?

also if it only tapped for I could maybe see it being freeplayed but I don't know.

If you want to be able to play this without requiring Explore shenanigans, you want a wording more like Haakon, Stromgald Scourge .

"You may play Edge to Nowhere if you've played another land this turn, but not if you haven't."

From now on, whenever I like a card I will demonstrate this by typing "Oh, yeah, this card is so wet!"

this isn't necessary. Haakon's wording is to allow you to play it from the yard and deny other castings. this doesn't need that, only the restriction. restrictions don't give you permission to do anything, just restrict you.

This is so wet.

Given the drawbacks, I feel like this could tap for colored mana.
Maybe not all colors, but you could choose a color?

It should tap for colored mana. It's a legendary land, normally they're unplayable (at least a lot of the recent ones have been).

If it tapped for a single color (chosen ETB), this design would be something living up to the title legendary.
