Rakdos's Return
Sphinx's Revelation
Epic Experiment

What do these spells have in common? None of them are in a cycle.
No seriously. They were all designed independantly of one another, that's why there's not a Golgari or Selesnya x-spell.

WELL WE CAN'T HAVE THAT.
In this contest, I want each of you to design your best x-spells so Jarad and Trostani don't feel left out.
So sad ;-;

CONTEST RULES
1. Your spell must have both of the guild's colors.
2. Your spell must have X in its cost.
3. You can design for either guild or both.

You have 48 hours. Have fun!

Perfect originality is overrated and often ugly. The best and most beautiful cards I've ever seen were clearly inspired by something else.

Cards are not entirely unlike living organisms in this regard. All the good ones are a result of long evolution; the 'original' ones are either monocellular or mutant aberrations.

The weird part is reaching over the table, grabbing a card from their hand, and just staring slowly back at them, awkwardly, as you slide their voice of resurgence slowly into your pants.

Graveborn are strictly better than Zombies. I mean, look at that wicked beard . You try growing that when your dead. And I know aging fellows who are suffering from Male Pattern Baldness, who would kill for a Mop like Ribsy's over there.

The Great Dredge |
Sorcery
Put the top X cards of your library into your graveyard. For each card put into your graveyard in this way, put a 1/1 green Saproling creature token onto the battlefield, then put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control.
"Jarad's will be done. The rites of the dead will breed life anew."

Unite Synchronization |
Sorcery
X target creatures you control get +X/+X and gain trample and lifelink until end of turn.
"The Worldsoul fights as one, but you will die alone." -- Trostani, Slesnya's Voice

Wonder if anyone will get the reference for the Selesnya one (also, don't forget that you need to have X creatures to target, so the pump is limited by the number of creatures you have available as well as the amount of mana in your mana pool).

Pestilent Onslaught |
Sorcery (M)
Creatures you control get +X/+X and gain trample until end of turn.
This turn, if a creature you control would assign combat damage to a player, that player loses that much life instead (even if that damage would have been prevented).
Jarad's brood carried a stench most foul, a touch most bane.

A design note Show
This works because it says "if a creature [...] would assign" rather than "would deal" -- thus the reminder text is actually accurate as reminder text.

Dang, there's already a couple other "Populate X times: cards.

Vernadi Awakening |
Sorcery (M)
Up to X Forests or Plains you control become X/X Forest Plains Elemental land creatures with vigilance.
Each green or white creature you tap while casting Vernadi Awakening reduces its cost by .
When the need is dire, Mat'Selesnya channels more than merely a voice.
