Had the sudden inspiration the other day to try and find a way to use Mad Prophet in an Innistrad-themed deck. I love the flavor of the Blue/Red "steadily going mad" flavor, and ran with it. I have a rough mill deck laid out, with burn outlets in playce to hit any creatures my opponent may throw at me. At the moment, its not very fast (bad for red), but it is fun for group play. I'd like to keep it standard/innistrad block just for flavor preferences, but I'm open to listening to convincing cases:

Lands:
4 x Sulfur Falls
2 x Desolate Lighthouse
2 x Reliquary Tower
7 x Mountain
7 x Island

Creatures:
4 x Mad Prophet
4 x Deranged Assistant
4 x Civilized Scholar // Homicidal Brute
2 x Mirror-mad Phantasm

Spells:
4 x Burning Vengeance
4 x Dream Twist
4 x Desperate Ravings
4 x Increasing Confusion
4 x Geistflame
4 x Runic Repetition

Pretty much get out 1 or 2 Burning Vengeance and flashback everything to keep the enemy at bay. Mad Prophet and Civilized Scholar can mill my hand, while Deranged Assistant is ramp/self mill. Homicidal Brute can be a cool battle trick if absolutely necissary. Mirror-mad Phantasm is a great mill option, that can dump my deck into my graveyard for plenty of options. As for win, Increasing Confusion flashback (and ~2 damae with Burning Vengeance ), over and over. Then Runic Repetition it back into my hand once all 4 have been used, and dump them back into the graveyard with the prophet or scholar. Like I said, its a little slow atm, so I'm trying to speed it up a bit/not die to crazy aggro as fast.

Mad Prophet is one of my favorite cards, so the fact that you went and made a deck based off of him makes me pretty happy with this c:

I think I would focus more on keeping yourself alive then speeding things up. I would do that by cutting runic repetition since you have plenty of card draw in the form of milling yourself for flashback things, and then run something like Firebolt or Devil's Play for more removal. You can't always count on having the vengeance.

Faithless Looting might be good here, and since self-milling is better in this deck I like it more than dream twist.

How are you going to call it "spreading madness" without a single spreading seas or madness card in the decklist. With all of the discard a card effects maybe something like obsessive search or circular logic would work well in this decklist (and make the name more meaningful IMO).

Sorry if my suggestions are mostly flavor suggestions. The decklist looks good my friend.

i will try Devil's Play , though i feel like something that hit multiple targets woulf be more effective. I was running Faithless Looting originally and did actually like it for how easy it was to put stuff into the graveyard. i honestly cant decide if mill or burn would be a better for this deck...

Not a problem, my friend. I chose the name coming from the standpoint that the flavor of U/R from Innistrad was actually about crazy people doing/saying crazy things. I like the idea of really pushing the madness, though, and may look into once Innistrad cycles (and I stop trying to make standard decks...).

I appreciate your input, though

Personally, I'd love to see some form of R/U/G deck win with Psychic Spiral .

You have acess to Mulch, Faithless Looting, Forbidden Alchemy, Thought Scour, Izzet Charm, and Tracker's Instinct. Tack that on to your creature base + a little Farseek to fix and ramp and you could have a hillarious combo deck.

Maybe:

1 x Mirror-Mad Phantasm

4 x Mulch
4 x Faithless Looting
4 x Forbidden Alchemy
4 x Izzet Charm
4 x Tracker's Instinct
4 x Thought Scour
2 x Psychic Spiral
1 x Memory's Journey
4 x Fog
4 x Reclaim
1 x Cyclonic Rift
2 x Increasing Confusion

Not 100% innistrad, but this would be just plain silly. Just dig dig dig dig dig and spiral them out. The hardest part is not dying before it goes off. Reclaim + instant speed draw also provides room for shenanigans.

There is Rolling Temblor , but that hits your guys, so maybe just something like Arc Trail or Arc Lightning would work then.

I'm trying out a build where I cut out the Increasing Confusion , Geistflame and Runic Repetition . In their place I'm trying out a burn strategy using Devil's Play , Mystic Retrieval , and Faithless Looting . Its still pretty slow, but at least its getting a bit more focused. I want to try and use Psychic Spiral with Mirror-Mad Phantasm , but I feel like things may run better if I cut that aspect out entirely. The issue is I can mill my deck and get pretty much anything I would need out, but no real final targets. I wish Runic Repetition would target enchantments as well, but in the meantime it can let me get back Devil's Play that I mill to cast them for their cheaper cost/possibly burn with Burning Vengeance :

Lands:
2 x Desolate Lighthouse
2 x Reliquary Tower
4 x Sulfur Falls
7 x Mountain
7 x Island

Creatures:
4 x Mad Prophet
4 x Civilized Scholar
4 x Deranged Assistant
2 x Mirror-Mad Phantasm

Spells:
4 x Burning Vengeance
4 x Dream Twist
4 x Faithless Looting
4 x Desperate Ravings
4 x Devil's Play
4 x Mystic Retrieval

I feel like a better instant/sorcery target would help this deck focus. At that point I could possibly change out/add Secrets of the Dead over/along side Burning Vengeance (3 of each if both). At the moment, its a weak burn deck with a cool flavor (imo).

Oh you just neeeeed to consider Violent Eruption and Fiery Temper , going by the theme, colours, and your weakness (slow burn), 'think they're perfect. Lava Dart as well, considering you're sporting Burning Vengeance . Anger also works really well with Faithless Looting . I run most of those cards in a R/G madness deck (based around the mechanism) and can strike for lethal Turn 3 with those cards fueling each other. You surely don't need to go that route, but individually I'm sure each of one has something different to offer you.

I've been looking at Laboratory Maniac as a possible win con due to all the self mill. I don't think its fast enough, though/will survive long enough against most decks. I feel like there's just so much going on and that I'm not using the flashback as efficiently as I could. Burning Vengeance is a good start, but I need more... perhaps Memory's Journey would work to shuffle them back if they get milled? Or perhaps a tutor of some kind?

I like a lot of those older flashback/madness spells. I feel like Anger would work if I had better creatures, though a hasted Civilized Scholar would be pretty cool, actually... I know Geistflame is the newer version of Lava Dart , and I have beeen playing with it for a while, so taking another look at both couldn't hurt any.

And then it hit me! I do have a sorcery that I can mill for, Past in Flames . Go full burn, throwing in a few more regular/cheap burn spells and then cast them back with the added damage from Burning Vengeance and you have a solid U/R deck. Now, this may just be from a lack of sleep, so hopefully when I look at this again in the morning it will still seem like a good idea:

Lands:
4 x Desolate Lighthouse
4 x Sulfur Falls
7 x Mountain
7 x Island

Creatures:
4 x Mad Prophet
4 x Deranged Assistant
4 x Civilized Scholar

Spells:
4 x Burning Vengeance
2 x Past in Flames
4 x Pillar of Flame
4 x Faithless Looting
4 x Desperate Ravings
4 x Think Twice
4 x Silent Departure

Probably could use some more Geistflame , Devil's Play or Dream Twist , but at the moment, it seems pretty solid. The Silent Departure is a decent bounce spell for what its worth. Its also a good 1 drop for when I use Past in Flames (the more 1-2 drops, the better).
