Hello fellow MTG players, I just started playing MTG a week ago after watching countless people I know play the game. Therefore, I am about as new as you can possibly get in the world of MTG. I have, however, have played a few years worth of Yu-Gi-Oh and thus have a kind of minute inclination of how card games work. A few hours ago, my friend and I put together a deck that I thought would be fun to play with and was fairly unique. I would like you guys and gals to see what you could do to improve it. I'm not looking to win any tournaments with it, but I would like it to be good. I honestly can't tell you specifically what my main purpose is, but I have a few combos that made me chuckle when I came across them. I really like the mana boost, infinite mineslaver, mycosynth w/blightsteel and win-ridiculously-fast-with-tezzeret combos in this deck. If you come up with an idea that would make this deck better, even though it may change the way the deck is shaped, then please tell me. Afterall, I do have the final say in what I put in my deck. I don't have a budget: Money is NOT a problem. I want this deck to stay Vintange legal. Any thoughts and/or constructive criticisms would be much appreciated! Here it is: Land and mana producing artifacts: (21)2x Cloudpost 2x Glimmerpost 4x Dimir signet 1x Sol ring 4x Seat of the synod 4x Vault of whispers 1x Tolarian academy 1x Academy ruins 1x Mox Sapphire 1x Mox Jet Creatures: (18)3x Broodstar 3x Memnite 2x Mycosynth golem 1x Steel hellkite 3x Rusted relic 4x Master Transmuter 1x Blightsteel colossus 1x Wurmcoil Engine Sorcery, Instants Etc: (21)3x Tezzeret the seeker 3x Mindslaver 4x Expedition map 4x Go for the throat 1x Thoughtcast 1x Time Walk 4x Mana Drain 1x Rush of Knowledge As a side note, I came to the Vintage section from the casual play section because I wasn't getting very much feedback. This way, I can get feedback from both sections:P I will also be getting a Black Lotus and putting it somewhere in this deck, soon.

If money truly is not a consideration then you don't need to reinvent the wheel: MUD (an artifact deck) is already a tier-1 competitive Vintage strategy. That said, with that beast you'll find it hard-pressed to find anyone to play you casually! You can check out a Vintage battle report here that shows MUD against a cute RUG Delver deck. -- Marketing Specialist at Zco Corporation | Custom Mobile Software Developer

2x Cloudpost 2x Glimmerpost - both of the posts are inferior to city of traitors , ancient tomb , and if you go heavier on artifacts, mishra's workshop 4x Dimir signet - unplayably slow in vintage 1x Sol ring 4x Seat of the synod 4x Vault of whispers 1x Tolarian academy 1x Academy ruins - terrible, there are better ways to recur slaver, and no way to fetch this easily 1x Mox Sapphire 1x Mox Jet Creatures: (18)3x Broodstar - wasnt even played for the entiree time it was legal in standard 3x Memnite - play 4 or none. i recommend none. 2x Mycosynth golem play 4 or none. i recommend none. 1x Steel hellkite 3x Rusted relic 4x Master Transmuter 1x Blightsteel colossus 1x Wurmcoil Engine Sorcery, Instants Etc: (21)3x Tezzeret the seeker 3x Mindslaver 4x Expedition map 4x Go for the throat 1x Thoughtcast 1x Time Walk 4x Mana Drain 1x Rush of Knowledge im not touching the sorcery instant etc section. what you need to do is decide what youre doing. are you playing control? are you playing aggro? prison? if you have this much blue, you should be running 4x force of will . if youre running ANY blue you should be running ancestral recall . where are all your black tutors? if you are running mana drain, you need fetch lands to make sure you have access to double blue on turn two. if youre running affinity, you need erayo, soratami ascendant and a bunch of sphere effects. if you have budget restrictions and/or a weird meta, you need to let us know. vintag is insanely competitive, and this cant win against any kind of reasonable field.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in an thread with GM_Champion" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against AzureShade when card design is on the line!

I know, right? I'm just glad I have the collection to resource from to play Legacy. Vintage is just out of my price range, though it's still funny when I explain to new Standard players who complain about card prices just how much money is sitting on the table at a Vintage or Legacy event.

Oi vey, That version of mud is too creature intensive for me. My list would have ports and a stacks or four. I really loved it when they put Slash Panther in there, that was hot. MUD is what I'm working on at the moment, I just need to get off my ass and get my last workshop before too long..

slash panther is crazy sexy. luckily after investing so much i dont really have to bat an eyelash if i need to pick up a couple hundred bucks of new "it" cards, since they are easy to trade for.
i have to say that if you want to make an artifact deck on a budget, stax is going to be very very difficult for even a poorly dedveloped meta. you are almost definitely better off with some sort of affinity legacy port. luckily there are ways to play it effectively in vintage, moreso if dealing with an unpowered meta. i think we really need more details on the types of decks you play (including individual card choices, as much as possible.)

I derailed the thread somewhat, I have the things to make MUD, minus 1 Mishra's Workshop .

So if MUD is a popular vintage deck for competitive play, does that mean that two MUD decks play against each other very often? If so, then it seems like the chances of winning are 50/50 and therefore make that match completely unfair and irelevant.
