the dimir letter of introduction includes:

shapeshift

memory excision

psychic skimming



shapeshift could be steal/copy target creature

memory excision is obviously discarding or milling

psychic skimming is library control

hmm also assassinate spells, enchantments  and tings. Deathtouch probably everywhere

how about the black / blue effect turn to be something like

-- Gain control of target creature till end of turn (blue), at the end of the turn destroy it (black)

its not much in the way of shapeshifting but it could be ..



when SoAndSo comes out destroy target creature, SoAndSo becomes a copy of target creature until end of turn. 

Deceive (3) -- When SoAndSo enters the graveyard target player takes the top 3 cards of his library and puts it into
his graveyard.

this would really only be found rare or mythic cards...you couldnt print this on low CMC common or uncommon cards...

I was suggesting the copy effect as part of the mythic guild leader card. The mechanic I was suggesting deceive or infiltrate could be printed on commons.... 2 drop 1/1 guy with Infiltrate 1.. When he dies target opponent mills 1 card. The uncommons and rates could have infiltrate 2,3,4 or whatever.

oh yeah, thats reasonable. But since these creatures are only milling once they should have larger numbers for their mechanic. Compared to a possible mechanic where a 1/1 creature could make you mill 1 a turn when it deals combat damage, your mechanic should make you mill at least 2 or 3 when they die

I think. Future-shifted mechanics would be the exception to the rule, if there will be one. Just saying.

They're not.
R&D did consider several future shifted mechanics but ultimately came to the conclusion that a lot of players would bitch incessantly if their favorite guild didn't an entirely new mechanic.

For what it's worth, MaRo did a thought exercise on his blog where he chose a returning ability for each guild

Selesnya - Affinity for Creatures
Izzet - Splice onto Instant
Golgari - Unearth
Rakdos - wither
Azorius - absorb
Orzhov - Morbid
Gruul - Frenzy
Boros - Battle Cry
Dimir - Morph
Simic - Proliferate
