Hrm.  Well, that's crummy.  The decklists to both of the new decks seem like they lack a little something.  If R&D wasn't going to include promos, I would hope they would at least have cut down on the filler and had a higher density of good cards.

We've already known the full decklists for a while now.  They're decent.

I guess if the thinking is 'we threw in the promo unlocks as a bonus to help market our paper product' then it makes sense that you wouldn't try that again given that all the codes were leaked well in advance.  You would have no financial incentive to do the work necessary to supply extra cards.

But as a consequence you've created a strong imbalance between the deck packs and the original game and expansion - it weakens the overall product.

Why not release a deck pack four called 'Deck pack 4: the promo unlocks' that had 10 extra cards for each deck in all the deck packs?  It would be 60 more cards - fewer than what is in the current deck packs.  Charge 3 bucks for it, you get paid, we get better decks - everyone is happy.  There will be a lot of complaining that it isn't free, but people will eventually fall in line and buy them:

a. your product is as addictive as heroin.  They will have no choice no matter how much they protest

b. people are competitive.  If they play against Act of War with a second Balefire Liege, they will pony up to make their own decks better.

c. throw in a bonus, something that people have been clamoring for years for, that probably wouldn't take too much time to program: a RANDOM DECK OPTION for multiplayer.   No one would be able to resist - it would make online games substantially more fun and they'd be too busy playing to complain here about the fact you charged for such a simple option.

Yeah, I'm pissed that they randomly decided to give less cards to the remaining 6 decks. To me it reeks of laziness and ...well, pretty much just laziness. I've loved everything that they've done with DotP'13 up until this arbitrary drop in cards. The difference is, I'm not telling others they should or shouldn't buy them. I don't care that others buy them or don't. If Sixty4half buys them and enjoys them and is perfectly happy with 30 unlocks rather than 40, I'm cool with that. He's playing the decks and I'm not. Advantage him right?

It's just, yeah, disappointing that they could improve on a game this dramatically, then make some completely random and pointless... Hell, I'll just call it a design flaw.


So yeah. No promo unlocks. Good to know. Makes no sense. Whatever.
Like I said, the deck matches a lot of what I wanted out of it during speculation and the Dimir deck has also caught my eye. So in time, if the interst strikes me I may buy them anyway. Then the people that say "Splattercat said this!" and "splattercat said that!" while completely ignoring the context of what I'm saying, can say "Splattercat caused a big ****storm about the decks and bought them anyway!"


In other news...None of my posts were ORC'd in this thread. So that's a thing...

Thanks Sean, the decks are fine with no promo unlocks.  Beggers being choosers, and haters gonna hate..  Still a remarkable product.
