This Deck was built in 0:28:27 Total Deck Size: 40 18 Lands --------------- 5 Mountain 3 Plains 8 Swamp 2 Izzet Guildgate 17 Creatures --------------- 1 Batterhorn 1 Bloodfray Giant 1 Desecration Demon 1 Drainpipe Vermin 1 Grim Roustabout 1 Lobber Crew 1 New Prahv Guildmage 1 Rakdos Ringleader 1 Rakdos Shred-Freak 1 Rakdos, Lord of Riots 1 Rix Maadi Guildmage 3 Seller of Songbirds 1 Slitherhead 2 Splatter Thug 5 Other Spells --------------- 1 Blustersquall 1 Chemister's Trick 1 Launch Party 1 Skull Rend 1 Traitorous Instinct I went with a Rakdos Early-Mid Aggro with a bit of an "Azorius" splash. I went with the Seller of Songbirds as a cheap source of a flying body to get a bit more damooge for Rakdos, Lord of Riots. Basically, every splashed card is for the purpose of getting past blockers and causing havoc.

I get the feeling I might've forced something a little too 'cute' this week. The lack of removal made me a tad uncomfortable, so I leaned a bit more on Pyroconvergence than perhaps I should - but the extra multicolour cards work well with Lobber Crew as well, which is solid on its own. I also threw in Guild Feud as a 'cheap' way to drop Rakdos and Desecration Demon , and because the deck is so heavy on creatures and light on removal in general. This is one I'd actually like to play, though, because it looks fun, if a bit unreliable.
I'll admit my first eye was toward Azorius; something good could probably come out of it, but being almost completely blank in the 4-drop slot made me a little too reticent to go for it. That said, the 2- and 3-drop slots look really solid, and it may be possible to put games away relying solely on those...

Initially I thought the black was too shallow to allow for B/R so I started on an Izzet flying aggro build that splashed white for the new prahv guildmage and righteous authority . After I had built that though, I decided I should leave no stone unturned and see if red could make up for black's numerical deficiencies. It's really tough, the Blue/Red/white deck feels more consistent in its ability to punch damage through (mostly b/c of flying) and can just blow the game off its hinges with blustersquall and chemisters trick, but the B/R deck gets to its bombs faster and has a stronger low end to its curve. The solution I found was to splash blue into the B/R deck despite the potential color problems. I was very careful to stick to at least 8 swamps so I could reliably cast my black double weight black cards. Fortunately we can do this because we have 2 izzet guildgates. I tucked away one more mountain for an island for good measure because the only double red weight spells are rakdos himself and the bloodfray giant. I saw a lot of other B/R and B/R/u decks put in batterhorn and tenement crasher but I was trying to keep my casting cost as low as possible. That may be a mistake, but I think it's the right call. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** From Mark Rosewater's Tumblr: the0uroboros asked: How in the same set can we have a hexproof, unsacrificable(not a word) creature AND a land that makes it uncounterable. How does this lead to interactive play? I believe I’m able to play my creature and you have to deal with it is much more interactive than you counter my creature. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Post #777

Effort from a novice here. Started with a pure Rakdos deck, then changed my mind and bult a pure Azurious. Then for a third attempt built URB. The more exotic I get the more I usually fail (including getting mana screwed) . . . . but sticking with the latter This Deck was built in 0:10:10Total Deck Size: 4017 Lands --------------- 4 Island 4 Mountain 7 Swamp 2 Izzet Guildgate 16 Creatures --------------- 1 Bloodfray Giant 1 Desecration Demon 1 Frostburn Weird 1 Grim Roustabout 1 Izzet Staticaster 1 Rakdos Ringleader 1 Rakdos Shred-Freak 1 Rakdos, Lord of Riots 1 Rix Maadi Guildmage 1 Runewing 1 Sewer Shambler 1 Sphinx of the Chimes 2 Splatter Thug 1 Tenement Crasher 1 Volatile Rig 7 Other Spells --------------- 1 Assassin's Strike 1 Blustersquall 1 Cancel 1 Inaction Injunction 1 Launch Party 1 Skull Rend 1 Traitorous Instinct
