As much as I wanted to fit in Rakdos, Lord of Riots I felt like his casting restriction might be a problem, and when it wasn't he would just be "win more."  Not sure this is the optimal build, but it's what I came up with...

My basic plan is to stall my opponent until i can get a Flying creature out. I can hopefully control their plays and stunt their attacks with the detain cards long enough to get to Righteous authority. So I liked Azorius even withought having the guildgates.

BGRu deck with Rakdos/Desecration Demon/Tenement Crasher as the big finishers.
Axebane Guardian with some defenders as ramp and fix.

Blue splash for Izzet Staticaster which is an awesome card and practically disables your opponent from playing anything with toughness 1.
Can also set up favorable combat "trades", especiallu with the help of the Guildmage.

Black / Red seems like the strongest colours in this set. Mainly due to: Bloodfray Giant , Desecration Demon , Rakdos, Lord of Riots , Rix Maadi Guildmage , and 2 Splatter Thug s. However, there are not enough black and red cards to make a decent 40 cards deck, so I decided to splash blue as well (as many other people have done).

Blue works because we have two Izzet guild gates which makes mana fixing a little easier but also due to two Frostburn Weird s, which are one of my favourite two drops in this format. It also complements the aggro deck I'm going for as it is a good blocker with 4 toughness, but if the board is open it proves to be a excellent attacker and mana sink.

I added Voidwielder because this creature is very versatile, it can be removal against tokens, stall by bouncing an expensive creature or can open up a line of attack. Izzet Staticaster is a card I have been underrating for quite some time because most creatures have at least two toughness. However, it does allow me to trade with creatures which are tougher (and more expensive) than creatures I attack with. Also, with two Splatter Thug s on my side I can deal with creatures of toughness 4 without having to lose any of my creatures!

Last cards to comment on are the holy trinity (yes, I did make that up!) of Downsize , Mizzium Skin , and Blustersquall . These cards are excellent against a variety of decks. Downsize can be used offensively of defensively, either run into your opponent's line of defence and deny any kills / trades he was hoping for and blow a hole in his defences without loosing any creatures (that's why we are using it) or let the opponent attack and do no damage (and lose creatures in the process). Mizzium Skin works perfect if your opponent is packing a lot of removal spells. Blustersquall is a modification of Sleep and can be used to either delay your opponent (can't attack for a turn) and / or to put all his blockers on non-active and allows you to get in for some damage. However, since the latter is only useful to finish the game and is not that effective at delaying your opponent I decided with the former two.

Rakdos Aggro. I understand that many people felt unsure of the quality of BR in the pool, but every card has its use. The only cards I'm not 100% sold on are the Guild Fued and the Assassin's Strike. However, we are playing a large contingent of creatures, and Assassins is one of the few spot removals we have available to us.

Flag leeroy418 November 5, 2012 6:53 AM PST

I decided on an Izzet aggro deck, though the pool was pretty solid for Rakdos, I just couldn't see myself playing without the guildgates for such intensive mana costs like Rakdos, Lord of Riots because you could just get color screwed easily. The deck seems like a lot of the Izzet decks I've built which are fast and the Rakdos Shred is the one I am most hesitant to play due to the double red but it's solid besides him.

Seeing all of the powerful and relatively early creatures in black and red, I knew I should make some sort of black/red agro deck. I later put in blue seeing how the cards in there worked nicely with the tempo of the rest of the deck. Blue and black helps keep my opponents creatures locked down or removed in order to continue the beat down. Going Grixis provided good agro and removal.

After looking more into other people's deck lists, I probably would find a way to put Judge's Familiar and/or Lobber Crew in there. Judge's Familiar makes for a great early evasive beat down in the air and Lobber Crew defends and pings for a damage every turn (this card works great with Rakdos himself; I can't believe I did not see it before).

This pool drew me very strongly to blue and black, with white and green being very unexciting. I did end up making a fair number of blue cuts though. The most painful was stealer of secrets, but the deck isn't very aggressive, it's light on removal, and it has no way to give the stealer any form of evasion. I see a lot of people using lobber crew, but I'm still not sold on that card. With three multicolored spells in my deck, it realistically only deals one point of damage every turn. That's great for some decks. This deck has a few pretty sick bombs though, so that point of damage isn't very relevant. Hover Barrier is better with its 2 points of extra toughness and the fact that it blocks fliers. There are 18 lands in this deck since there are quite a few mana symbol intensive early cards, and it's a three color deck.

Other cards worth mentioning:
staticaster- This card is actually pretty good in combination with a leashed splatter thug. If I wasn't playing three colors it would have made the deck. Outside of that combo though, it does fairly little in this format.
Electrickery- I want this card to be good so badly. It looks good. Even the art is awesome. It's a really bad card in this format with so few x/1s that really matter. I would have loved it last block though.

Only like 3rd time ever doing a sealed deck, but I feel like the white/green in this pool would be under utalized with the bombs that Rakdos brings to the table, wanted to do something other than what everyone else was doing. Goal is to get Fencing Ace out, pump him on on some "performance enhancing" spells and push through the damage. Ethereal armor with the Urban Burgeoning in the deck make for a quick +3/+3, also the 2 Urban Burgeoning if possible can keep 2 mana open for  New Prahv Guildmage flying ability to either give a defender flying if you dont have  Hover Barrier out, or ensure you have mana for a pump spell so you wont have to trade a blocker. If games go longer than intended, Doorkeeper with other defenders can easily mill 2-3 per turn, with enough defense to stall until you can mill out your opponent. I feel like Sphere of Safety has a lot of potential for blunting the attack as well.

I initially built a UW deck to take advantage of some nice cards like New Prahv Guildmage Dramatic Rescue , & Sunspire Griffin .  The lack of removal in that build, however, and the Desecration Demon , Assassin's Strike , & Launch Party put me into the above UB build.  3 concerns/questions I have about this deck are:

1. With 4 6-drops, should I be running 18 land?  I almost added a 10th Island for this card of concern ...
2. Volatile Rig .  How good is this card?  I've heard mixed reviews, but added it because I am playing to the late game and a pseudo-wrath (along with the 5 4+ toughness creatures I do have to hold off most attackers) seemed to be a good fit for this deck.
3. A Dimir deck?  Really?  Am I just asking for trouble not playing along and choosing a RtR guild?  While I don't have access to any real guild cards, I do have access to some hybrid cards from Azorius & Izzet.

Another great article.  I'm already looking forward to next Monday for the next installment.

I decided to head into battle with an aggressive W/U. Not a whole lot of removal, but I have a ton of cheap creatures and some pretty good cards for card draw.

I went ahead and added in some milling cards as well. Codex Shredder would be a nice turn one card to start cutting through the opponent's deck, and even allow me to get something important back. Doorkeeper was a fun idea for addition as well, as he's cheap, has 4 toughness, and even has an effect I could activate on an oppenent's turn if I have some extra mana lying around, taking away even more of my oppenent's options, which is even better than removal in my opinion for the simple fact that(unless someone went for Golgari mechanics,) the opponent doesn't even get a chance to entertain the thought of playing it!

I decided to go without many high-powered cards, trying to keep most of it under four mana. Isperia's Skywatch, while a beautiful 3/3 flyer, didn't really find a place here because I felt the 6-cost was too much to ask for. I didn't really want the Sphinx either, as it's attack and flying ability wasn't enough to get passed the cost of 6 and the fact that I wouldn't be able to use the draw ability more than once if I was lucky.

All that being said, there's nothing really in terms of a 'bomb' for this one, mostly quick fliers and ways to keep the opponents creatures off the field, or in the graveyard before being drawn.

I kept the land count somewhat low, as it's a 40 card deck and a number of the cards assist with drawing. The mana cost for most of the cards is low too, allowing me to continue drawing quickly through the deck, and (hopefully) always having more creatures on the field than my opponent. With the strong inclusion of flying, as well as the amount of card draw, creatures, and the fact that my opponent will be continuously losing cards from the top of their deck, I felt this would work well enough without a true bomb card. A question though, is this a good way to think? Or would it be best to always include at least one bomb, even if it seems the deck may work without it?

My experience from Return to Rav in Limited has caused me to want two things out of my draft and sealed decks. Typically, I want to be as close to two colours as possible, and second I generally want to be on the beat-down plan. I chose U/W splashing green. Azorius guildmage is comparable to Rakdos GM as far as power level, and our bombs are much easier to cast. I have become a big fan of Fencing Ace. In the right kind of deck he can donk your opponent out unexpectedly, and makes combat awkward with giant growth effects, and the instant speed Travel Preparations. One concern is this decks somewhat low creature count, and lack of hard removal. We are looking to win games with big evasion creatures, or a well timed blustersquall. Occasionally we will nut draw, and our opponent will get crushed by Fencing Ace. Chorus of Might may be wrong over a second copy of Isperia's Skywatch.

Rakdos and Desecration Demon are two very aggressive creatures - they can almost ensure a win if they can be played into the field early in the game.

Some explaination of my choice:
- Inaction Injunction and Inspiration can help draw the two bombs faster
- Voidwielder can prevent your opponent from sacrificing and tapping Desecration Demon if you have it on your field, or just generally removing blocking creatures for the other smaller aggressors
- Volatile Rig would help cast Rakos
- Judge Familia adds to the few number of flier and is a better choice than Cancel because of its low cost
- Slitherhead can make the already powerful creatures even bigger and is perfect for Launch Party

If you're wondering about the 41 cards, I almost always play 18 lands in fear on getting land boned.  Plus since this deck has more 4 drops than usual, I want to make sure I get the 4th.

The pool screamed Rakdos to me, then again I love playing aggro.  Also 9/10 times going 3 colors in a 40 card deck is asking for trouble, just sayin.

Dinky creatures + disruption early and midgame, then some power houses like tenement crasher, sphinx late game, all nicely padded with some control and some card advantage. Hell yea America.

I originally thought Rakdos and Desecration Demon were a sort of challenge bluff, but with Volatile Rig and Lobber Crew in the mix, a Rakdos wouldn't necessarily be impossible to cast. So I fixed this up real quick.

The odd card here is the Codex Shredder. I figure, though, Rakdos builds like this go all-in, so playing a one-drop that can slowly remove a card a turn from my opponent's library and later fetch me something back, especially in a deck as reckless as this, couldn't be a terrible thing, no?

I went with B/R because of Rakdos, Lord of Riots , Guild Feud , and Desecration Demon .  As B/R tends to have higher power cards, Guild Feud because very useful.  The Desecration Demon can slow down your oppenants creature build-up.  The weak thing is that there is little in the way of direct damage for Rakdos, Lord of Riots , but hopefully a couple of creature removal cards will help open up your opponents.
Flag Odbbal November 5, 2012 1:06 PM PST

This card pool is a trap.  The big splashy creatures are in black/red, but the other black cards are relatively weak and Desecration Demon is going to be garbage against all of the token decks in this formta.  In addition, running those black cards requires a serious black investment, but there just aren't enough good cards in the color to justify running it.

This is a difficult card pool to work with, but that's what makes it fun (it's the reason I registered).  Ultimately I went with a heavily defensive deck to set up a bunch of big fliers.  It's a somewhat slow deck, but it curves out pretty well.

It seems like the pool should be Grixis with a more aggressive bent, though not to the extent that I like Rakdos Shred-Freak in my deck.  Staticaster seems too low-impact to be worth it.  I thought about Vassal Soul, but the mana is stretched pretty thin as it is.  I think Tenement Crasher and Perilous Shadow are good choices for this deck, as it does have the ability to compete in the mid to late game.  Blustersquall is an outstanding finisher in this deck.

I went with a Rakdos Early-Mid Aggro with a bit of an "Azorius" splash. I went with the Seller of Songbirds as a cheap source of a flying body to get a bit more damooge for Rakdos, Lord of Riots. Basically, every splashed card is for the purpose of getting past blockers and causing havoc.

I get the feeling I might've forced something a little too 'cute' this week. The lack of removal made me a tad uncomfortable, so I leaned a bit more on Pyroconvergence than perhaps I should - but the extra multicolour cards work well with Lobber Crew as well, which is solid on its own. I also threw in Guild Feud as a 'cheap' way to drop Rakdos and Desecration Demon , and because the deck is so heavy on creatures and light on removal in general. This is one I'd actually like to play, though, because it looks fun, if a bit unreliable.

I'll admit my first eye was toward Azorius; something good could probably come out of it, but being almost completely blank in the 4-drop slot made me a little too reticent to go for it. That said, the 2- and 3-drop slots look really solid, and it may be possible to put games away relying solely on those...

Flag Flyheight November 5, 2012 1:48 PM PST
Initially I thought the black was too shallow to allow for B/R so I started on an Izzet flying aggro build that splashed white for the new prahv guildmage and righteous authority .

After I had built that though, I decided I should leave no stone unturned and see if red could make up for black's numerical deficiencies.  It's really tough, the Blue/Red/white deck feels more consistent in its ability to punch damage through (mostly b/c of flying) and can just blow the game off its hinges with blustersquall and chemisters trick, but the B/R deck gets to its bombs faster and has a stronger low end to its curve.  The solution I found was to splash blue into the B/R deck despite the potential color problems.  I was very careful to stick to at least 8 swamps so I could reliably cast my black double weight black cards.  Fortunately we can do this because we have 2 izzet guildgates.  I tucked away one more mountain for an island for good measure because the only double red weight spells are rakdos himself and the bloodfray giant.

I saw a lot of other B/R and B/R/u decks put in batterhorn and tenement crasher but I was trying to keep my casting cost as low as possible.  That may be a mistake, but I think it's the right call.

I didn't have too much trouble with this pool; I'm a Rakdos player by nature, so the mass of black and red cards available was an easy pick colour-wise.  Splashing blue seemed quite acceptable.  A bunch of aggressive black/red creatures backed up by some decent blue/red blockers and blue combat tricks should provide the needed press through for the win.  Lobber Crew makes the Lord of Riots really simple to play, by the way (*insert evil chuckle here*).

Rakdos has the bombs (2x 6/6 flying for 4) but black isn't nearly deep enough for a deck.
Azorius has good cards until #23 (Swift Justice could also be a Cancel or a Seller of Songbirds ...) + a good curve.
The splash for Staticaster isn't really needed. But I don't lose much because the land split would be 9-8 in favor of the Islands for the Weirds anyways. And the Mountain doesn't hurt here.
The only hard thing is 2x Weird + Sunspire Griffin. But either is too good to cut.
All in all a great tempo deck with tons of fliers.

Flag kurthl33t November 5, 2012 2:37 PM PST

Boy, this one was tough.  There are some really good red/black bombs, but I don't think there are enough cards to really support a Rakdos deck.  But good GOD there were a lot of playable white/blue cards.  I eventually went with an Azorius deck that tries to stall on the ground while going over the top with a lot of flyers.  It's not as bomby as some of the decklists others put together, but it should be pretty consistent.  And I like the fact that I can lock down the opponent with Azorius Arrester and some bounce while my flyers keep pecking away.

The Rakdos cards in the pool seemed to pretty strong, then seeing the hybrid cards mixing into the Black and Red it seemed an easy choice for my money Slitherhead is one of the best one drop creatures in RtR and the Frostburn providing a useful two drop.
With the two guild gates fixing in a little blue to add the Blustersquall as a defensive measure and the Static Caster as a flash burner.

Blue had a lot of cards with two decent bombs and a lot of evasion.  I think an izzet or Azorious build could work here but Rakdos just has SO MANY game winning bombs.  Desecration Demon is amazing as is Rix Maadi Guildmage , not to mention Rakdos, Lord of Riots himself.  Even the relatively mundane looking Rakdos Ringleader and Bloodfray Giant can really put on the pressure.

I decided to splash blue for Blustersquall Tower Drake might seem like an odd card to splash but I figured but I figured if I had enough sources for the Blustersquall then it wouldn't be any trouble to ad in one more blue card.  Also, a little extra blue mana never hurt a Frostburn Weird .

Black and red are impossible to ignore here.  Traitorous Instinct can be game-breaking, and the fast Rakdos creatures complement the Lord of Riots well enough.  The Tavern Swindlers are there because they are bears.  Sewer Shambler is a good addition for scavenging from the graveyard, Skull Rend for skewering the other guy's late game and bombs, and finally Blustersquall for disruption.  I would have gone heavier into Azorius if not for the lack of good white cards to support Sphinx of the Chimes, Blustersquall, and New Prahv Guildmage.

I love to play limited online and in real life because i feel it puts players on a more even playing field. I love these articles because it allows me to get a point of view that I may have not thought of before.
Although I was initially inclined to play blue/red and splash black, after analizing the cards I feel the best option was to go black/red and splash blue for frostburn wierd and mizzium skin to protect my creatures from removal.

Izzet has some very nice spells and I initially tried to make an izzet deck splaching white for the azorius guildmage and Riteous Authority. However, this seemed very clunky and there was no clear deck plan. Rakdos also had some of it's key elements but it was necessary to splash blue. I feel the splash is justified as the three creatures fly and also 3 of the 4 cards detain their stuff, allowing my to punch through extra damage.

I'm three pages into the comments, and I noticed one card in my deck that didn't show up much: Pyroconvergence.  I knew that the Lobber Crew was going in as a solution to a board stall and to help me cast Radkos, so there's a little bit more multicolor synergy.  Pyroconvergence gives this deck some more reach and some extra removal.

I also didn't think this deck was likely to be fast enough or had enough cheap removal to race with other fast decks in the format.  The Frostburn Weirds help slow the ground game if necessary but also are nice aggressive creatures.  The Slitherhead is a one-drop in a deck that is very short on one-drops, and the scavenge works nicely with the tramplers and the first strikers.

I also think the Staticaster works really nicely in this deck, even though there aren't a ton of 1-toughness creatures out there in the set, for a number of reasons.  In the early to mid game, having a Staticaster out makes an unleashed Splatter Thug very hard to deal with.  He can also kill speed-bump blockers or weenies that my opponent might use to delay the Desecration Demon.  He's multicolor so if I get him on the late side, he might be an extra three points of damage with the Lobber Crew and Pyroconvergence.  He's also a nice little sneaky blocker and combat trick with flash and haste, and one point of extra damage when the tramplers attack.  In a pinch, he can even kill a Slitherhead or Sewer Shambler to have access to scavenge.

There are really two cards that I don't love in this deck: the Judge's Familiar, and the Radkos Ringleader.  The Familiar is primarily there to be a late-game activator for Pyroconvergence and the Lobber Crew, but I also thought he might occasionally end up being useful early as a cheap flyer if the mana cooperates, and in a pinch, as a useful guy to drop scavenge counters on.

I think I probably should swap the Codex Shredder for the Ringleader.  Most of what the Ringleader is doing is activating the triggered reach by being multicolor.  Having the option to bring back a must-kill creature like Radkos or a useful spell is probably much, much better than the overcosted Ringleader.

Here goes, getting back into the game after a long break. Started out with blue/red/black to try and take advantage of the two guild land cards, seeing I could add the wierds and get a lot of fast creatures, but in the end, there wasn't enough cross-over to make the third color useful, so I went with a Rakdos deck.

From my initial impressions, Return to Ravnica doesn't have too many cards that can clear multiple creatures from the board at once (barring Electrickery), so strength in numbers is a good strategy. This deck has quite a few cheap, hard-hitting creatures that could overwhelm the opposition- some with regeneration to make them hard to kill, and some with unleash to make them even more painful. And some with both. Plus there's the scavenge mechanic to beef them up further. Most of the */1 creatures here have either regeneration or scavenge, so they'd still be useful after an unleashed Electrickery, anyway.

The Volatile Rig is a situational card that could work well with scavenge- it could potentially wipe all this deck's creatures off the board- but the next creature that comes out can scavenge some of them and be huge. The other option is putting in the Codex Shredder, but I'd want to see how this version plays first. I think this deck would be a fun one to try.

Doing a rarity sort shows us two 6/6 flying demons and this is a strong pull to B/R. I a rix-maadi guildmage, some splatter thugs, and a bloodfray giant too: so I got to work building what looked to be a very strong Rakdos deck. Upon doing so, however, it was clear that there just weren't enough playables for Rakdos. Without splashing, you ended up having to play very mediocre cards like Tavern Swindler. The available splashes were uninspiring: blue gave you a few izzet cards (most notably, frostburn weird, which I would play even w/o the blue splash) but nothing exciting. Green was also a no-go, there weren't any strong golgari cards and the more powerful green cards were at odds with a splash.

The next-best option seemed to forget about black entirely, and build an izzet splash-azorious deck for which there looked to be more than enough playables. I went with izzet splash-azorious rather than azorious splash-izzet because of the importance of frostburn weird to the deck, and the lack of anything with WW cost that was inspiring enough to slant my mana towards azorious. The splatter thugs, bloodfray giant, and lobber crew were just more powerful and aggressive cards than anything white had to offer. The U/W guildmage, righteous authority, and to a lesser extent dramatic rescue were well worth splashing though. They all fit in to an aggressive izzet deck's gameplan by providing evasion, finishing power, and a powerful tempo play respectively.

Notable is the fact that I decided to play 18 lands: you need UU and RR for some of your most powerful cards, in addition to wanting a plains every game. This requires a bit of sacrifice to not risk getting mana-screwed. Additionally, you have some powerful closers at 5 and 6-mana: you're going to probably need to cast them to close a game against Selesnya of Golgari decks that start to gain momentum late-game. The risk of flooding isn't as high as it might be normally too: you have some mana-sinks (new-prahv guildmage, frostburn weirds) and card draw (inspiration, righteous authority) to help minimize the impact of flood on your game-plan. While this deck may not have the splashiness of a Rakdos-centric deck with two 6/6 flying demons for 4 mana, I believe it to be more consistent and more powerful overall. You're not forced to play chaff, and you have some respectable bombs of your own to compliment an already solid tempo deck.

This was indeed a tough one.  There is very little removal in this pool.  Depressingly little.  While Rakdos has a lot of fun things going for it, I have a hard time playing Rakdos without more removal being open to me.  If I go Izzet splash Azorius, I have some weak, conditional removal such as Swift Justice, Dramatic Rescue, New Prahv Guildmage, and Voidwielder.  I think the Rakdos deck is an Augur Spree or Annihilating Fire away from being the better deck.  Here's what I ended up with:

Righteous Authority is as much a must-answer bomb as Rakdos, Lord of Riots.  It's an absurd display of power, especially when I can stick it on a Splatter Thug, Weird, or flyer.  Sphinx of the Chimes is just a big stupid flyer, but when you can bounce and detain, big stupid flyers get in there.  I don't love Staticaster in this build, or Lobber Crew, but they seem necessary.  That ping plays well with the foursome of Splatter Thugs and Frostburn Weirds.  Lobber Crew just needs to be a three mana 0/4 to play in this deck, so its ability is bonus.  If I had more instants, I would play the Cancel - I worry since I'm mostly just dudes that if I left mana up for it, my opponent wouldn't cast anything worth countering, and I'd have wasted my turn.  I wonder about the Stealer of Secrets in this build.  I assume most of the time it gets in, it will be on the back of Inaction Injunction or NPGM floating it for a turn.

If this were a big important tournament, I'd probably build up a Rakdos list as well.  If my opponent is durdly, I would switch decks.  I think the Izzet deck will be better against the field but the Rakdos deck would have a better match up against another Izzet deck, for example.

There wasnt much removal in this pool, but the power level of rakdos is far more powerful than any of the other color options. Due to the 2 Izzet gates, it was farely easy to splash blue for the hasty pinger, and two pseudo removal spells... Since this deck is farely aggressive, both inaction injunction and blistersquall can disable blockers and allow your guys to get in for the last few points of damage.

I really really liked blue in this pool and I'm a real fan of the blue white guildmage, but I didn't think the white was that strong. You could probably make dozens of bird tokens but that's not really what I want to do.

Blue / Red Izzet is also a possibility, but I really hoped red would have a Guttersnipe and it didn't, and so far I'm not impressed by Izzet Staticaster (in the build I ended up with you could splash it against tokens)

I really wanted to use the Rix Maadi Guildmage  and when deciding to go that way I could also fit in the two bomb flyers. Both colors had really good cards, but in the end I still had to add a Slitherhead which I wouldn't normally play to fill the deck.

Since the pool had two Izzet Gates I added a Blustersquall  and the  Inspiration , although I was temted to add a Isperia's Skywatch because it really has been growing on me lately, but I'm not really short of creatures here and wanted to keep the maximum of blue cards to two because of the two gates, which don't mess up the mana for the Rakdos Lord, the Demon and the Bloodfray Giant

The  Lobber Crew is the best card to cast  Rakdos, Lord of Riots on turn 4, and the  Frostburn Weird 's are just awesome, even with just 9 mana sources to support them.

Curious to what other people came up with!

Ravnica is a lot harder to build for me, because everything is so multicolored.  It's tough to tell when I'm being too aggressive with the mana base.  I also have a tough time evaluating how good the Blue cards are, since a lot of them seem underpowered offensively.  I ended up playing an aggressive Rakdos deck.  The plan is to put on a lot of early pressure with the Rix Maadi mage and Splatter Thugs, then close out the game with a combination of Tramplers, Fliers, and finisher spells.
I opted to splash a few blue cards since the pool had double Izzet gates.

After reading the article I expected something like that pool - a bomb in Rakdos himself, but not that many great cards in his colors. When I tried the Rakdos approach about one third of my deck was "I don't really want to play this card but I'm not at 40 yet", so I tried the other possible combination - Azorius.

I quickly went for the good old "win in in the air" strategy, so I focused on flyers, ways to buff my flyers, and cards to hold down the ground (like Hover Barrier and Frostburn Weird ). Thanks to the Guildmage I can even make my enchanted Fencing Ace fly!

I had to make some tough decisions for my last few cards and I decided to maindeck Swift Justice and Mizzium Skin over cards like Stealer of Secrets or Blustersquall. Because we have no removal whatsoever I think it's necessary to play the pseudo-removal ( Swift Justice ), and because we rely on whatever creature we enchanted a Mizzium Skin to protect it felt necessary. We have quite some tempo plays and carddraws, so I think a Guildmage/Stealer combo only takes away mana we could spend on real flyers.

I considered splashing a Traitorous Instict, but unless you can steal a flyer it's not going to do a lot for you, so I didn't want to slow down my manabase with gates.

Overall I like this deck a lot more than the Rakdos one!
