my friend hit krenko, mob boss  with pillar of flame  , then attacked with ash zealot  . I blocked with krenko. does krenko survive the first strike damage & they both die, or does krenko get exiled & ash zealot live?

In the first combat damage step, ash zealot deals 2 damage to krenko. Krenko now has 4 damage marked on him, so he is destroyed. Instead of going to the graveyard, krenko gets exiled. Ash zealot does not die.

- Krenko has 3 toughness and 2 damage when it blocks the Zealot.
- After the first strike damage is dealt, Krenko has 3 toughness and 4 damage.
- SBAs are performed. Krenko is destroyed, and exiled as a result.
- Nothing happens in the normal strike combat damage, so the Zealot survives.

No, he just has to be dealt damage by Pillar of Flame in the same turn he died.

No, he just has to be dealt damage by Pillar of Flame in the same turn he died.

Pillar of Flame has two effects.
The first is a one-shot effect that deals 2 damage.
The second is a continuous effect that affects each creature damaged by it. (it could affect more than one creature with redirection effects
eg. Lancers En-Kor  )
The duration of the second effect is this turn and if the affected creature would die for any reason, it gets exiled instead.
