Hi,

I'm a first time poster and a long time reader, I've been playing Magic since Invasion and lurking around these forums since Lorwyn. Last summer my play group started playing EDH and at the moment I have Uril & Mimeoplasm decks in shape. Our meta is quite a casual and I started thinking if could I make a Turbofog/Group Hug EDH deck that is fun for me and my opponents and is also competive enought. This is just a draft and I haven't done any play testing so I would apperciate any ideas.

I also don't yet have most of the cards and I'm on a budget (around 70$), so I can't get some cards like Burgeoning which would be nice, although I do have quite a few cards, so all the pricy cards aren't automatically excluded.  As commander I was thinking Angus Mackenzie but I'm not sure if I'm able to find one so I might have to use some other one.

Symmetrical draw:
1 x Howling mine
1 x Font of mythos
1 x Temple Bell
1 x Otherworld Atlas
1 x Rites of Flourishing
1 x Jace Beleren
1 x Kami of the Crescent Moon
1 x Walking Archive
1 x Skyscribing

1 x Forced Fruition

Fogs:
1 x Dawnstrider
1 x Spore Frog
1 x Kami of False Hope
1 x Constant Mists
1 x Moment's Peace
1 x Respite
1 x Spore Cloud
1 x Dawn Charm
1 x Tangle

Propaganda effects etc:
1 x Propaganda
1 x Ghostly Prison
1 x Sphere of Safety
1 x Windborn Muse
1 x Collective Restraint
1 x Island Sanctuary
1 x Crawlspace
1 x Aurification
1 x Blazing Archon
1 x Chronomantic Escape

1 x Runed Halo

Removal:
1 x Bant Charm
1 x Oblivion Ring

1 x Day of Judgment

1 x Acidic Slime

Counters:
1 x Mystic Snake
1 x Counterspell
1 x Dream Fracture
1 x Spell Crumple
1 x Hinder

Ramp:
1 x Oracle of Mul Daya
1 x Gaea's Touch
1 x Sakura-Tribe Elder
1 x Farseek
1 x Explosive Vegetation
1 x Farhaven elf
1 x Patron of the Moon

1 x Simic Signet

Tutors:
1 x Tezzeret the Seeker
1 x Fabricate
1 x Idyllic Tutor
1 x Sterling Grove

Utility & random stuff:
1 x Wonder
1 x Genesis
1 x Phyrexian Metamorph
1 x Sculpting Steel
1 x Lightning Greaves
1 x Elixir of Immortality
1 x Venser's Journal
1 x Psychosis Crawler
1 x Eternal Witness

Lands:
1 x Riftstone Portal
1 x Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
1 x Alchemist's Refuge
1 x Reliquary Tower
1 x Glacial Chasm
1 x Terrain Generator
1 x Magosi, the waterveil
33 x basic & nonbasic lands

I tried to avoid Peacekeeper and Stasis type effects that jam the whole game and draw attention to me. I'm still missing few cards and I think I might have too many fogs and propaganda stuff and not enough counters, other control and howling mine effects. With this deck my biggest concern in our meta is probably a blink deck that is quite a capable mana denial via ld or bounce.

EDIT: added few cards

Maybe I'm not seeing it, but do you actually have a win condition?  Group hug decks aren't my specialty, I'll admit, but shouldn't you have a plan B/offense?

I admit that my wincon count might be bit low as Forced Fruition,  Psychosis Crawler, Jace, Tezzered and Elixir of Immortality are pretty much the only ones besides few moderate big creatures. Magosi can also make me skip my turn and keep me from milling myself, and Island Sanctuary can let me skip few draws. Most players in my group also have some draw in their own decks too, which helps me milling them. In my experience Turbofog must be pretty much all-in strategy or it won't work. When playing 1v1 in non-singleton formats symmetrical draw should be enough to do the job, but I'm not sure how it turns out in higlander and multiplayer.

I also wonder if I should play more mana stones over ramp spells, as they don't thin my library. And yes, I think this already folds to mass artifact/enchanment removal, but my group doesn't play any yet.

It seems like Asceticism , Spore Flower , and Riddlekeeper would all have a home in this deck.

I am a fan of Mill as a win con in EDH. And it can work. But it rarely works as a primary win con, and rarely works against more than one opponent per game unless you are using combo. You are relying on Mill as not just the primary win con, but as the SOLE win con. You are relying on it beating the table, and you are not using combo. I think you are in for a loss, probably several.

You have nothing that interacts with your opponents' graveyards. If they are running GY tricks, your mill will only help them.
If they run Eldrazi, your win con is hosed.
If they run Gaea's Blessing your win con is hosed.
If they realize what you are doing and team up on you, you are hosed.
If they have Elixir of Immortality or Feldon's Cane you are hosed.
If one of them has mill as a seconday win con and targets you, you are hosed. All it takes is one Hedron Crab or Jace's Erasure and you are done for.

I think you may be better off skipping Angus Mackenzie and going for the cheaper (dollar-wise)  Zur, the Enchanter . Losing green loses some of your fogs, but Zur can put most of your Propaganda effects directly into play, thus establishing your defenses. Plus having black allows for you to interact with your opponents' graveyards and/or play things like Nemesis of Reason . Honestly, with Zur, I'd cut the fogs and rely on the Propaganda stuff and some creatures for defense, with the creatures being a backup win con.

Why aren't you running fog ?

Also, isochron scepter is win. And keep it with Angus, he's a good guy. Zur attracts hate WAY faster than Angus.

Also, f*ck winning

Actually, I think with the addition of a Luminarch Ascension you might be able to generate some real offense.  Also consider Seedborn Muse , makes the Isochron Scepter trick above that much more effective.

For Wins maybe try Felidar Sovereign , Helix Pinnacle , Test of Endurance , or Laboratory Maniac

Meishin, the Mind Cage can weaken the power of all creatures.

Another thing you want to have is a way to untap your Commander if Seedborn Muse is not out. Freed from the Real can be used or Pemmin's Aura for some evasion.

Another kind of cards you can use is, Dream Tides and Embargo which can lockdown the field.

Frozen Ether and Kismet can slow down opponents.

I quite like your deck. Consider the following though:

Reminisce
Krosan Reclamation
Reclaim
Noxious Revival
Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
Luminarch Ascension

Fog/mill decks really love Dovescape , Privileged Position , and Sterling Grove . Blazing Archon doesn't hurt either.
