If I was Owen, I'd hire several muscles to carry my ego around for me. He's currently the highest skilled player with LSV tailing behind him (PV being the highest technical player).

I think there has to be a shift in the meta for mono-red to be good. Thragtusk is crushing many mono-red dreams. Honestly, aggro red now needs support from atleast one other color and I don't see that changing. In the defense of red, I actually like red a lot right now because it is doing more than aggroing and playing overcosted random effect cards. I think I've played more Faithless Looting alone than my entire LGS regulars put together.

I think there's actually a U/R Aggro deck to be built that can tangle with Zombies. I'm trying to figure it out at the moment.

2:  Don't listen to CFB writers who are not LSV, PV, or Caleb Durdward.

I'm assuming it has counters and delver my problem is the counters aren't worth it on 3 drop versus plain aggro

No, absolutely not on Delver. Though, honestly, the U/W/R midrange is probably just better.

Hmm, Other than Delver, what are you getting in return for splashing U besides cheap bounce in terms of aggro?

I don't think red is completely hopeless, then again I'm a bit of an optimist when it comes to red. I play it in every format

Cards like Centaur Healer and Restoration Angel are irritating. Since they are effectively fogs against red decks and keep oponent alive long enough to get down thragtusk. Loosing manabarbs really hurt and there is no way to punish opponents for tapping out at the moment.

I think the trick is to push further up the curve by cutting stuff like Stromkirk noble and start adding some bigger creatures like Zealous Conscripts and Thundermaw Hellkites to the red decks.

Before rotation I was playing a R/G deck with Rancor, Huntmaster and Flinthoof Boar (Boggart ram-gang is always good), unfortunately loosing the second set of R+G dual lands hurt that stratergy. I think when Gruul comes into standard red will rise up again. Especially when you'll be able to play two 3 power 2 drops then (Chainwalker and Flinthoof boar), I think rancor will work well with cards like Ash zealot as well, unfortunately mana is not there yet...

I'm an older player looking to return back to Standard and my question is with Burn and Goblins taking a hit with this last rotation, can mono-red still make a mark in Standard? And by what turn is most games won by these days?

Thanks,

check out my deck. It has been rolling over various forms of bant midrange/control pretty easily. Even a topdeck Terminus or t4 Supreme Verdict only prolong the inevitable, as you can constantly pump out more cheap beaters. Vexing Devil is just amazing in this deck (laugh all you want, but I don't think I've lost a game where someone allowed me to burn them for 4 for only 1 mana)

It was revealed to me in a dream.  All the cards were in my dream except for three slots which I plugged in as Vault Skirge.

FULL DISCLOSURE:  The dream was post AVR so there was a copy of Slayer's Stronghold.  I decided to keep it pre AVR in my post here.

EDIT: I just remembered.  The Skirges might have been 2x Whipflare and 1x something else, probably War and Peace.

EDIT2:  Currently 4-0 in my first four games with this.  My opponents have been very angry.  I fought off a Wurmcoil from Grixis for six turns before I found my second Dispatch.  Jeez, I can do a lot of damage.

EDIT3: Streak broken.  Lost to an unexpected Overrun.    Cracking a Shrine for 10 wasn't enough.

How Kedi tests his decks:

also, I've been playtesting this deck in my sleep today
that kinda freaked me out

oversimplified analogies are always good in the place of constructive criticism ^^. regardless, OP posted asking about RDW in standard, so I posted a relevant list, in an attempt to be helpful (something you're clearly not familiar with). even if my list was horridly unplayable, it wouldn't be admissible for you to mock me.

but, seriously, if you saw some of the results that you get from taking random walks on tree representation of the deck you wouldn't be dismissing it out of hand. as a matter of fact, i think that this deck would get better, and more consistent, random walks than any of the popular archetypes (this doesn't mean it would necessarily win the matchup)

rather than *sometimes* ending the game on t4, this deck does it quite frequently. The only real problem it has is your hand running out, but almost any aggro deck will lose if the game goes past turn 5 or 6. perhaps you could enlighten me, king l33t, as to why this deck is so bad?
