Todays final M13 card to rate...

Xathrid Gorgon

 Spoiler: Show

5.0
: First pick no matter what pack.
4.5
: First pick pack 1.
4.0
: I will strongly consider playing this as the only card of its color.
3.5
: I feel a strong pull into this card’s color.
3.0
: This card makes me want to play this color.
2.5
: Several cards of this power level start to pull me to this color.
2.0
: Should generally make the deck if in this color.
1.5
: Decent filler.
1.0
: 23rd card if you have to.
0.5
: This card will sometimes be sideboarded in.
0.0
: I will never put this card into my deck (main deck or after sideboarding).

This beast is really good in limited.  Easily first pickable the ability to be able to slowly shut down the opponent is huge.  She is also out of Turn to Slag range with that nice 6 toughness.  Very good card.

4-4.5

Outside the prerelease, I don't think I have seen it once.

Bomb is bomb.

Not sure if it's a 5, but 4.5 is right.

I might try to splash this as the only card of it's color.  There are better bombs than it, but not many.  It requires some time to start up and it's a late game cast but it comes with the clause 'Answer this or lose the game' which is exactly what you want.

4.5. It might not have the immediate and threatening impact of most other rares (or 6-drops), but this mama decides games that go long. I lost my spot in the PTQ Top 8 this weekend to her and an Entrancer in round nine, and it was really nerve-wrecking. It's a good card in a deck that can use it.

It's so ridiculous as it avoids almost all removal in the set.  I once had one of these drift to me 6th pick in pack 1.  That should NEVER happen.  4.25

4.0. Maybe 4.5.

Something in the 4.0 - 4.5 range seems right. It is defintely a bomb if you are in a stable position or are beign attacked primarily by ground creatures, but at best it stalls out the game.

4.5 If you don't have a Murder, O-Ring or Volcanic Geyser, this guy can ruin your world. I've had the pleasure of running him and the displeasure of running against him.

I'm tempted to go to 5.0 on this one. It's the second best rare creature in the set, after Krenko. Completely stonewalls (...yep) most offensive game plans. Hard to remove. Easily splashable. Maybe I have a control fetish, but with this on the field you're free to do basically anything your deck wants to do.

You can't play her until you're at six mana, which you can't reliably get until the later turns of the game. Then once you drop her your opponent can still attack into her, especially with evasion. Then because she has to tap to use her ability you most likely have to wait until their next end step to use it because having a blocker that eats guys is more valuable. Also you need to leave three mana open for the ability. She's certainly good, and can completely turn the game around. But she's still a six drop creature, and isn't always enough to stop the wrath of your opponent.

I like Thragtusk better. I prefer Mutilate to it if I'm heavy black. Sands of Delirium is nice too, even though I don't like it as much as the other people here. Staff of Nin I like better as a six drop in a controlling deck. If you are able to control the game then that level of card advantage hands you the game, where there are still situations where you can drop a Gorgon while you are ahead and still lose. In the right decks (offensive ones) there's Predatory Rampage and Odric, Master Tactician which can win you the game on the spot. Magmaquake is alright too.
