For future reference, to get Gatherer to show Schemes, Planes, and other nonstandard cards, you have to go the Advanced Search page and on the right hand side click the checkbox for "Include special items (e.g. Planes, Schemes)".

For some strange reason, I've never noticed that box before...

I prefer free for all.  Any variant that restricts who you can do things to has its own set of problems.  For example, if you can only target or attack left, but the person to the right is the biggest threat.  You're stuck hoping the guy to your left can, or will, deal with him.   In multiplayer, you have to play smarter, and not draw everyone's attention to you before you can handle it.

3 player games are my favorite. You can't hide. It's like the ultimate challenge of building multiplayer decks. I think of it as multiplayer with less ppl between me and victory. Politics is just part of the game, and it's not going anywhere. So abuse it. Go into it with the attitude that your deck and gameplan have to be up to the challenge of taking on 2 people ganging up on you, and when they don't and go after each other instead, it makes it all that much easier on you.

Attack left doesnt mean you can only affect left, you can affect right, hell most of your control will go to the right, control means counterspell to naturalize to doomblade, etc.

Player 1 attacks player 2 and control player 3 to avoid getting hit too much
Player 2 attacks player 3 and control player 1 to avoid getting hit too much
Player 3 attacks player 1 and control player 2 to avoid getting hit too much

Then diplomaty sets in when someone is getting too strong for the taste of the person to his left.

The only thing this saves is ganging up to kill one of the player to have a duel after.

We've had fun with the following three-way variant:

When a player dies, s/he simply reshuffles the deck and rejoins the game at 20 life and an empty board.  This continues until a player manages to wipe out both opponents in the same turn.

Cheers!

Well when I play 3 player free for all, it is politics a lot of time.  One thing I do if playing a heavy aggro deck when ideclare attackers i ask the opponents to choose even or odd to determine who i'm attacking unless one has no blockers and the other does. On a side note, I am usually the one attacked and almost or completely kill pretty quickly, though if I do survive I tend to win. But that might also have something to do with me taunting my oppenents and encouraging them to attack me. Though sometimes that taunting actually prevents them from attacking me so idk.

We tried something similar once, but since our decks seems to be stronger than yours, we ended up with giving free 5 uninterrupted turns in a row to allow people to get back in the game and a double shroud 4 tokens luminarch ascension meant swift death to most other decks

I've never had much luck in chaos multiplayer, because although my firends certainly like me, I'm also often the person most satisfying to beat up and take down a peg (mostly for out-of-game reasons, I just have that impish/irreverant/cocky personality that people like but also like to pick at).

Such is life.

Moriok Rigger does absolutely nothing to boost other riggers. You are incorrect.

Moriok Rigger is not a Rigger in print. Only in Errata

IMHO, 3 player is one of the most difficult formats. It's basically 2 v1 all the time.  In larger games not every other opponent will be focusing on you the whole time.  I hate politics in 3 player games, makes them very lopsided.  My suggestion is build decks than can handle 2 people at a time and kill them both.  Then they'll just gang up on you I suppose.

I've nicknamed 3 player games "Cutthroat Magic"(I borrowed the term from billiards).  It plays very different from larger multiplayer games.  For 3 way I suggest making better decks, discourage politics,
and be aggressive.  I discourage politics with a little personal policy I call "bite the hand that feeds".
I'll go after players that try to "help" me, or I'll go after the players lending support to others.  You know those guys, mazing creatures that are attacking other players and such.  Interfering in other peoples combat and playing favorites.  If I interfer with other peoples combat, everyone is getting screwed.

I tend to play mostly 3 player when I do play mutiplayer and I've found that being more aggressive, I force my opponents to be more aggressive, and the politics vanish.  When everyone is playing their slow, control decks, the politics build up and the games get annoying.

I had a point, but need coffee, so I hope you can find it.

Norn's Annex , Propaganda , Lightmine Field (if you're playing exalted), War Tax , Ghostly Prison . You're welcome.

That's just the beginning, though. You can also use Edric, Spymaster of Trest  and Curse of Stalked Prey to say "Attack that guy!", Oblivion Ring , Journey to Nowhere , and Pacifism to make an enemy (and make everyone else love you), and cards like Zedruu the Greathearted , Mercy Killing , Forbidden Orchard , and Beast Within to make friends.
