Todays random card is... Warren-Scourge Elf Well I don't really have much to say about this guy. He's overcosted by one and has a mostly irrelevant ability. Not a fan. Discuss!

Bad. 1/1 with tribal protection for two mana. In general, protection's my least favorite mechanic, in that it's four mechanics, and only two (shroud and damage prevention) can arguably be considered green. Tribal protection's rarely relevant: Yeah, it could prevent my demon from blocking your Baneslayer. Doom Blade.
Now picture that on a weenie, with protection from a tribe associated mostly with red and occasionally with black.
Clever deduction Watson! Maybe you can explain why Supergirl is trying to kill me.

About the only good thing about Warren-Scourge Elf is you can use it with Conch Horn for two other cards. Downside, you'll draw it agian next turn.

Goblin decks are only popular in casual, and even then, this guy is only a rare sideboard card.
Should be a 2/2, with a more universally useful abilitiy.

IIRC, many RDW variants over the years have been very Goblin heavy. That said, yeah, using a 1 toughness creature to hose a tribe in the direct-damage color is silly. Not viable outside of limited.

For the same cost you can get a creature with more relevant protection , evasion, flash, and an ability that's generally considered powerful . I guess it's uncommon and not in a tribal set though. I'm guessing this was a limited sideboard thing.

Kuldotha red last year? Seriously. Turn 2 Goblin Arsonist ; turn 3 Goblin Grenade , Reverberate , 11 damage. Considering I have four Reverberate s and a bunch more five damage spells.
Also, Goblin Gaveleer .
Post-rotation, we have Arms Dealer and Stuffy Doll .
Note that that's just in the Standard run around Innistrad, which, while a tribal set, didn't use goblins. Scars and RTR were kinda anti-tribal; artifact sets are inherently modular, and multicolor sets are just opposed to tribal.
Lorwyn is tribal.
