Switch to Forum Live View Level up Always start at one?

Take Guul Draz Assassin for example, when I pay one black mana to put him out, then pay 2 more black mana to level him up, does he become a level 1, still a 1/1 or does he go straight to level 2?

A "level up" creature's level is always equal to its number of level counters. This means they always start at level 0, so using a level up ability once will put it up to level 1.
