Green Defender, trying to do this without spending a lot of money. I know this deck looks like it costs a lot of money, but I already ownn the Titans, the Hydras, the Birds of Paradise, The Green Sun's Zenith and The Garruks. So this is really about 20 bucks I'm spending including cases. How can I make it better? Kitchen Table casual, one on ones and small multiplayer games (3-4 players). 

I just ramp into my win conditions, use Beast Within for spot removal for problems I'm having with planeswalkers, or big things that fly. Optimal Scenario is turn 3 Pathrazer of Ulamog via hardcasting Summoning Trap . Am I too low on land? I was actually considering going lower to put in some type of hexproof for the win conditions.

I think the early creature base would look better as:
4 Joraga Treespeaker
4 Quirion Ranger
4 Overgrown Battlement
4 Wall of Roots
4 Wall of Blossoms
4 Vine Trellis


And maybe replace Trellis with Axebane Guardian when Return to Ravnica comes out.

Yeah, Axebane Guardian seems amazing, I'm considering running a couple Red Sun's Zenith , I think the Birds of Paradise , along with a couple Rootbound Craig should support it fine enough.

I don't think you should be running Red Sun's Zenith at all unless it is the focus. If you're splashing red it should be for removal like Lightning Bolt and mass removal like Earthquake .

I think Red Sun's Zenith would be an awesome and unexpected focus of the deck, especially with all the mana ramp that green has. Focusing on walls and such for defense and growing mana to toss out one giant Zenith would be pretty cool. All you'd need to get out would be one source of red mana.

Of course you could get much the same effect with other spells, I think.

The problem with Red Sun's Zenith is that you don't just need mana, you need . So if you want Red Sun's Zenith to be a finishing plan you need to build more around it, and should probably use Banefire instead.

Wow, I recently ruled out Red Sun's Zenith because I feared counters but Banefire is epic where I might have to consider it again. For now this is what I have, straight mono green:

Why no Quirion Ranger ? It allows you to double tap your Overgrown Battlement and Axebane Guardian . It seems like a must with only 16 Forest . If you are stuck on one Forest then Quirion Ranger can get you two mana by returning your Forest to your hand to replay. If you are stuck on two Forest it can get you that third mana if you need it. Just something to consder.


And if you add the Ranger you might want to consider my Treespeaker sugestion as well, since that's another way to abuse Ranger.

Quirion Ranger is cool, but the deck already ramps incredibly quickly without him, besides if I were to take him out, I'd have to probably remove Traproot Kami and if I did that then I'd get owned by fliers
