I really love bladetusk boar in this set.  Gear will  be maindecked no matter what though, so it's the safest pick.
Flag Sleeping September 25, 2012 5:57 PM PDT

Comments on the rest of the pack.

Jwar Isle Refuge / Akoum Refuge : Fixing is fixing.
Quest for Pure Flame : I have no clue how this card works in Zen/Wwk/RoE. My guess is "bad".
Spidersilk Net : Pretty mediocre with the other two sets involved.
Joraga Bard : Bad in the format.
Goblin Shortcutter : It's alright.
Nimana Sell-Sword : Too slow, never gets big enough.
Scythe Tiger : Bad.
Shieldmate's Blessing : Harder to make use of in the slower format. I don't think it's good.
Bladetusk Boar : Very solid. In the slower format this guy is a great clock. Gets blocked by Spawn tokens, but that is a minor issue.
Soul Stair Expedition : Too bad of a late draw. The other black Quest goes very well with Spawns though.
Blood Seeker : Actually pretty solid with stuff like Nest Invader running around. If you get it out early, it will do some damage.

I guess gear
Flag Lobster667 September 25, 2012 11:53 PM PDT
Nah, Bladetusk or Shortcutter. We're not going to get a consistant enough aggro deck with Rise in the mix and there will be drones to chump...
Flag Sleeping September 25, 2012 11:56 PM PDT
If we plan on having a flying plan then I don't see what's wrong with equipment.

I don't either. I just like my equipment to not cost a card in order to grant a bonus.

Flag Sleeping September 26, 2012 12:33 AM PDT

A consistent buff you can expect from a equipment card is +1/+1 , and that's actually pretty damn good. Conditional +2/+2 is really sweet. Consider the fact that over 40% of your deck is land, and also the fact that you'll probably have lands already in your hand when the Gear drops. This means the Gear will probably be effective at least half of the time. It doesn't cost a card, Landfall is not "discard a land", it's "play a land". And we might even get a Ruin Ghost , which makes the card super sweet.

I have photographic evidence of the strength of Adventuring Gear .

I'm not quite sure where we are going so I will take the Khalni Heart Expedition for mana fixing landfall.
Flag CommanderGreven September 26, 2012 8:37 AM PDT
I'll actually go with Arrow Volley Trap
Flag Master_Yumyums September 26, 2012 9:04 AM PDT
hard pick for me.

Arrow Volley Trap is *great* removal, but a bit costly, a bit situational, and the trap cost doesn't seem to come out too often.

Quest for the Gravelord is very good, you can get the 5/5 for 1 out decently quickly in most black decks I find.  Also sends good signals as there's little black in the pack.

Territorial Baloth is a solid fattie that interacts with Landfall.

Ondu Cleric is one of the staple allies.

Khalni Heart Expedition is one of the best landfall enablers in the block.

For now I'll go with Arrow Volley Trap as it's still good removal, and removal is removal.  But I'm not 100% on this at all.

Helpful analysis, I think.  I'll go a different way, though, and take the Gravelord.

Flag Lobster667 September 26, 2012 11:33 AM PDT
I like the Cleric.
Flag razorborne September 26, 2012 1:00 PM PDT
cleric is a third of a cathedral sanctifier for more.

quest is the best card in the pack, but I hate to pass the trap.

Flag Sleeping September 26, 2012 1:08 PM PDT

I'm actually a huge fan of Arrow Volley Trap , but I don't think it's as good in this twisted format.

Quest for the Gravelord is pretty good, but it's also not generally a card I go into black for. I prefer to have some solid (real) bodies or removal first.

Territorial Baloth is alright, but not really something I want to jump into green for.

Ondu Cleric can be powerful with enough support. But I doubt we can get that support with two packs.

Beast Hunt has pretty bad odds. Definitely not worth going into green for.

Bog Tatters is a powerful sideboard option.

Lethargy Trap is no good. We want to be attacking.

Khalni Heart Expedition is alright fixing and landfall triggers if you get it down early. But it has the Ranger's Path problem of getting you mana later than you need it. Also it might not come down early, and in that case it is just bad.

There are more impressive five drops than Tuktuk Grunts . I would not waste an early pick on it.

Timbermaw Larva is a good aggressive green creature, but I don't think we want that.

Shoal Serpent is pretty cool actually.

I'll go for Quest, I just think it's the best card here. Gets better if your opponent is cracking Spawns.

Aerialist seems bad in this format. Really, really bad.

Frontier Guide is the pick I think. It fixes, it ramps, it enables landfall. Goblin Shortcutter would probably be my second choice.

Flag Master_Yumyums September 26, 2012 4:16 PM PDT
Whoa I thought he was a 3/4 offhand.  Crappy memory.

As a 2/3 I want to switch to Shortcutter.  Never liked the Guide.
Flag Enigma.Kalion September 26, 2012 4:32 PM PDT
Frontier Guide.
Works well with our gear, and we might get started into the landfall deck route (which is pretty decent).

Sell-Sword or Lacerator?

Lacerator is very risk-reward, while the sell-sword pushes us more into allies, which I'm not seeing all that much pack support from.  I think I'll lean towards Lacerator.

Magma Rift is really good too but I'm not sure about 5 packs 4 colors right now.
Flag CommanderGreven September 27, 2012 9:54 AM PDT
I'll go with the drake.
Flag Sleeping September 27, 2012 1:24 PM PDT

Magma Rift hedges our bets a little. Expedition Map is an interesting choice though as its possible to get both manlands and Quicksand in Worldwake, and at worst it is slow fixing.
Flag Lobster667 September 30, 2012 2:19 PM PDT
I think the Map is okay, especially if we're lucky enough to find a manland in the next pack. Otherwise, it'd probably be the Trick for the sideboard or the Rift as a bet on red...

Shortcutter might make deck if we get another better red card to splash with it and we end up low on playables.  Not all too likely but more than Spire imo.  Hating doesn't matter too much in my experience.
