Don't get me wrong on this but my decision was a product of a timely condition. I knew nothing about Magic until I tried the DotP 2013 demo on steam and I loved it. I went forward in buying the game, learning its general aspects and even participating in real-life events after that surge. I had fun trying to unlock everything playing FFAs reading stuff about Magic lore and generally playing the game.

When the expansion was out, the moment I bought it and was ready to rush into these new duo coloured(something exciting for a newbie like me) decks, that bug occured. Steam support redirected me here as it is not a game VALVe owns and restoring steam cloud seems impossible.
I could get a save from someone else and with some instructions get back the decks, but spending 10 euros will ensure the fact that in a future bug I will have the decks again, given I will have the deck keys. Then every time this bug happens since leaderboard won't be affected and I do not dramatically care about the portraits, all I will have to do is steamroll through the campaign.

Of course, I believe that WotC should at least give unlock keys or co operate with VALVe so they may could reset cloud settings about their game but this is just too messed up and all I want is play !

Damn it, it happened again!

  • XBox 360
  • 2 Accounts, 2 Systems
  • Expansion installed for a while
  • Played last night locally with my usual friend, went to play this afternoon and here we are again
  • Kept decks, player rank, achievements this time, lost all campaign/challenge progress

If I lose all my deck unlock/card unlocks like I did in DotP 2009 I'm never coming back.

You mean I can just get a save from someone else? If that works, I'd be fine with that. But how? Isn't your personal information in the same file?

  • 2 Systems, 1 account. The system on which the problem occurred has/has had other Steam accounts active, but not for this game. I was previously able to use both systems to make progress in this game with the same account.
  • DLC: Just the expansion and promos. No deck unlocks or anything.
  • No noteworthy actions taken.
  • My achievements appeared to be intact, but literally everything else was behaving as though the game had been installed for the first time. I got a screen to remind me to get my Serra Avatar promo card. My tips/preferences/graphics options had been reset to their defaults. All campaign and unlock progress was back to zero.

Now, it's not really a big deal because -back on system1- Steam detected a conflict between my local files and my cloud saved files and gave me the option to upload my local(correct) files to their server. Just thought I'd report here.

You mean I can just get a save from someone else? If that works, I'd be fine with that. But how? Isn't your personal information in the same file?






If you google search the fix you are likely to run in a steam forum with a fix. There it tells you how to delete the personal information and replace it with another personal information that has the 10 basic decks with 40/40 cards.
I am not sure if it has campaigns and portraits and such.

Hmm... I guess you are right. It does seem a bit fishy though, I wonder if there would be consequences for the user's steam account.
On the other hand, it would be absurd if someone whose progress got erased got in trouble for trying to fix something caused by poor software development.

Hey Sean, I posted info somewhere else before, but since this post looks more official (and I'm not sure where my other post is located) I will list the details of my loss about 3 weeks before the expansion hit.

I only play DotP 2013 on one platform via Steam on PC.

I only have 1 account on 1 PC.  I have never accessed Steam or DotP through any other platform other than the home PC I always use.

The only DLC I had activated is the DLC for the Pack Instincts deck that I was forced to have because I owned DotP 2012 (I even tried to work around getting it by having a friend who never owned a DotP buy it and gift it to me).  I didn't want it, but I have it.  As mentioned before, this was before the expansion, so I did not have an expansion DLC content back then as I do now.

My actions were EXACTLY the same as any other time I play DotP.  I had no issues before or after playing DotP.  I had no forced shutdowns, no crashes, my PC has never frozen or had any other issues with any other games or programs before.  As far as I could tell, nothing was any different than any other day I played DotP.

I lost everything as if I had wiped all saves and did a clean uninstall/reinstall.  It asked the difficulty I wanted to play in, everything was reset (challenges, campaigns, etc.)  Under the Leaderboards it kept my old rank (or so I thought) until I played my first online game in which I went from rank 220 to 14000ish after winning 3 matches in a row...so it did reset my rank afterall.  It also said I had all achievements still unlocked (well, 20/25 as it was before the expansion) but as I played through the campaign again I was "unlocking" achievements again to get the portraits back.  The numbers representing the unlocks never changed.  It didn't reset after my first unlock as my rank did after playing my first game.

If there is anything else you would like to know or talk about with this situation please feel free to contact me.

As of today, I have the expansion, everything 100% unlocked and my rank is already back in the 100s.  So far I have had no issues or loss since I lost my data a little over a month ago (give or take a few days).  I backed up the entire 97330 file to a USB drive in case anything happens again....I hope it works if this does happen again.  I also disabled Steam Cloud after this incident just in case that had something to do with it...but I have heard people who had it disabled to begin with and have this problem as well...so I'm guessing it doesn't matter either way.

What is there to discuss every day?

Wizards employee #1: The people who lost all their progress are still waiting on a fix or reply.
employee #2: Let's discuss this tomorrow. Hopefully by then they'll buy all the deck unlock keys or move onto a different game.
