I love this obligatory "new set sucks" threads. But genuinely speaking, this is no Saviors of Kamigawa, Worldwake or Mirrodin Besieged so I'm looking forward to it.

I'm disappointed by the number of utility/removal spells at rare. I'm fairly happy with the set overall though.

Why does every other card say it can't be countered when there aren't good counterspells in Standard anyway?

Other than that the set seems ok, nothing could have lived up to the hype surrounding Ravnica 2.

I was wondering this as well.

FIVE cards, and we have 2 expansions to go plus another block that will be legal with Ravnica.

Seriously people.....

People's impressions of how many uncounterable spells Rav 2.0 has are skewed because in the first week or two of previews it seemed like every third card was either from that cycle or a graveyard hoser.

Also, calling it now: the reason overload is annoyingly 'you don't control' is so they can print spells that hit both player's stuff in Sinker. This extremely obvious choice will be called 'evolving the mechanic'.

Other than that, I mostly like the set. Some of the commons and uncommons seem needlessly overcosted and on oldRav even the terrible cards were less vanilla, but I feel they did a good job with designing 3-4 of the five guilds (while I think unleash is a great limited mechanic, I don't play Limited)

I don't know guys, I think i like this set.  Mechanics here are similar or almost the same as old mechanics and some card abilities is because new ideas that isn't based off anything else can't stop coming in indefinitely.  That's impossible.  Right now, they are out of ideas so much that they are using your own actions, or changing the way cards behave, DFC, Miracle, perhaps maybe some unglued or unhinged mechanics may become real mechanics.

What I'm saying is, WOTC is taking it slow in revealing brand new never before seen mechanics that are not based on any existing one, such as in the case that Undying is backwards Persist.  Even the simplest changes to an old mechanic can make a new one, and if brand new mechanics are released regularly, then ideas will run out too fast, so I have no problem with these mechanics.

I don't think it's "awful", but it could have been a lot better. To much removal at rare is going to make limited really bad. And the set seems uninspiried to me. There's nothign new story wise or flavor wise, it's just more of the same. At least when we revisted Mirrodin, there was an entire new story arc going on that made the set drastically different than the first time around

RtR is just slight tweaks on the the original Ravnica set. It give the whole thing a very "phoned in" feel. It's like the Mustang II, a pretty average/junky product trying to trade on the name of it's predecessor.

I wonder how many people who constantly scream Kamigawa sucks actually played during it.

It's like me saying I was incredible disappointed with the Dark after the fact.

It's the mentality and flavor that counts for my hatred.

You're not as cool as catowner to make that statement, and catowner's not that cool to begin with.
