It's kind of tricky to make suggestions when the set isn't out yet.

Have you thought about putting in Phantom General ? Like Intangible Virtue , he pumps up all your tokens. Looks pretty good to me for a deck like this, although he competes with Trostani in the 4 cmc slot. I'd make room for one more Avacyn's Pilgrim as well as another Call of the Conclave . You really can't go wrong with a 3/3 body for 2 mana. I really like the idea of splashing black for Lingering Souls . Definitely keep that in. Your main deck could really use some more spot removal, such as Oblivion Ring .

This is just my opinion, but I think the best way to build a populate deck will be to focus on the more powerful tokens. In other words, ignoring humans and spirits in favor of centaurs and angels; I personally plan to build my Selesnya token deck around Call of the Conclave and Moonsilver Spear .

In any case, even if you disagree with my opinion of smaller tokens, I recommend at least considering Moonsilver Spear as it can reliably give you a 4/4 flying populate target every turn, so long as you have creatures to attack with (and in a deck like this, you always will).

You should also consider that enchantment that lets you populate during your upkeep every turn for no extra cost. I forget it's name.

Growing Ranks is what it's called.

That's the one. Thank you.

Been storming over the simular deck, the result looks like that:

Plaiswalkers [2]
2 Garruk Relentless

To be honest, its the only viable option around - the Ajani is just from an another fairy tale, and 2GGG Garuuk version is ~meh~ ~cough~ ~oh~ not too good Wink

Creatures [8]
2 Angel of Jubilation

2 Trostani, Selesnya's Voice
4 Avacyn's Pilgrim

Piligrim provides white mana, and this deck needs tons of it, so the guy`s vitable. Trostani, while been a nice, Abrupt-protected lifegain-and-tokengenerator in one, proved to be weaker than expected, so got cut to 2. Angel is a pseudo-Sigarda with a built-in Anthem effect, Abrupt-protected too, so the triple W totally worth that.

Spells [26]
4 Lingering Souls
4 Intangible Virtue
4 Midnight Haunting
4 Oblivion Ring
4 Selesnya Charm
2 Eyes in the Skies
2 Rootborn Defenses
2 Increasing Devotion

Most of the spells are pretty self-explanatory, yet some choices still need a comment:
  - Eyes in the Skies - at worst, its the 5th-6th Haunting for one more mana; at best, it can net you 3-6 creatures with evasion at the end of an opponent`s turn, which ends badly for him.
  - Rootborn maindeck - not for its protective effect, but as a source of Populate at an instant speed. Protecting your tokens from Sewer the Bloodline/Supreme Verdict/Bonfire is just a bonus
  - Increasing Devotion - its damn easy to cast with our Piligrims acceleration, and five tokens in a deck with 8 Anthem effects is nothing to laugh at.

Lands [24]
4 Evolving Wilds

4 Forest
2 Gavony Township
1 Swamp
4 Plains
4 Sunpetal Grove
4 Temple Garden
1 Overgrown Tomb

The black mana here is only for flashing Souls back, so we don`t need Chapels or something. Township is nice, but having one on the board is enough, and getting two on the starting hand looks like a mulligan.

Sideboard [15]
2 Rootborn Defenses
3 Sundering Growth
3 Pithing Needle
2 Rest in Peace
3 Azorius Arrester
2 Faith's Shield

Faith's Shield is nice `cause it can protect your Virtues from harm, and also works as good ol`Mantra if things are getting messy. Arrester, IMHO, => Fiend Hunter in certain situations, since it doesn`t remove the card from the game, thus preventing entering-play effects from re-triggering.

I know it is a great card, but I'm not sure there's a place for it in this deck.  The only creature I could see you wanting to enchant it with is Wayfaring Temple.  I figure token decks would be more about swarming over an opposing army rather than punching through it.

This is my current take on GW populate:

GW populate tokens!

Lands: 23

  • 4x Sunpetal Grove
  • 2x Guardian of the Grove           (8/8 token   )
  • 2x Gavony Township                   (+1/+1 counters)
  • Forest
  • Plains
  • Temple Gardens ofc

Creatures:

Other Spells:

Planeswalkers:

So my idea here is that generate more tough and more dangerous tokens to populate. I feel like populate will be a waste for 1/1 guys. We can now get 3/3 and 2/2 tokens for only two mana. Only one at the time, though. What I'm trying to do here is something like this: Create tokens, let them beat me a little, prevent the damage with Rootborn and Druid's Delirevance and start populating like madman. I really like those two spells because you can chump block and save them with rootborn and you get to populate too. Druid's Delirevance is also a great trick I feel. Let them zombies come at me, I'll just prevent all your dmg and populate. Then I can also buy A LOT of time for my big guys.

I know that this attempt lacks needed removal but I feel that there isn't a reliable removal around anymore.
