Sorry guys, but 11 a.m. Pacific time is a little too early for me as I would be picking my kids up from school and Garet (Lance) would still be at work. Saturday and Sunday are a lot more flexible for me if Friday night is a no-go.

This is correct.  We're both on the eastern time zone.  Let's setup a time for Friday night or over the weekend.

Rent to Own wins super solidly over Wee Just Beat the Dragonauts 2-0.

A lot of quick burst damage and burn put them over the top both games, and sadly lowly Troll's couldn't get there

We confirm this: Rent To Own wins 2 to 0 vs Wee Just Beat the Dragonauts!

Game 1: Was a close one for sure, PinkPutty's Troll Ascetic gave us a run for our money, on not being able to remove it (that creature is evil)! A lot of Terminate and Go For The Throat flying at Rent To Own. A Compulsive Research allowed for one Demigod Of Revenge to be discarded and the other hit the field but Wee Just Beat the Dragonauts! did not flinch and when all dust settled and Rent To Own's creatures were gone, Volcanic Geyser delivered the final blow.

Game 2: Was very fast paced, and again the nasty Troll Ascetic showed us how hard it is to remove (well it never died in either game)! But oddly enough no Demigod Of Revenge lived past the turn it came out. While Ashenmoor Gouger fell to Rent To Own's Bituminous Blast followed by cascade into Vexing Devil which did not stay. The last 3 life for Wee Just Beat the Dragonauts! was taken away by Blightning.

Very good plays by both teams and good sportsmanship. Good luck in the next round to all.

So we have videos up on Youtube now of our match. Game 1 part 1 is over here

The 2nd part is over here

Game 2 is over here

My favorite part was in part 2 of Game 1, where I say that we don't care about racing with Blood Artist, and then less than 5 minutes later we go from 13 to 7 life and die to a Volcanic Gyser , because of said Blood Artist .

Looking over the footage I see the misplays we did, due to either mistakes or misclicks, so when Fuddle says that "they just had better hands" we know that's pretty much a straight lie. I don't know what was in their hands or decks exactly, but I think it's safe to assume that a general outplaying occured by them.

Hopefully we learn how to play Magic a bit lot better by the time for the next round :p

I couldn't agree more monk.  People are always making excuses for why they lost.  In a game that does have a luck element, sometimes you just get the short end of the stick.  No reason to complain every time it happens as it happens to us all.  For those who know how to play well and build decks well, you will win more often than not, even after luck takes its share.

Yeah absolutely Epic battles there.  Game 1 we were just able to do enough damage with aggro that by the time you guys stabilized the board and got board advantage with the Lord of Extinction and Gelectrode after killing Creakwood Leige; you guys were at 2 life and couldn't attack or kill any of our creatures or you'd die.

We thought about not sweeping with the deed second game when we did and took 4 but I'm glad I went ahead and did it because you guys would've burned us out the following turn for sure with Arc Lightning/Revertebrate that Sean used anyways to put us to 4. Very well played on both sides while I had fear that Sean would draw a volcanic Geiser, or two electrolizes back to back, especially after casting timewarp.

Thank you both for the amazing matches and I apologize for my computer issues which made the games take longer than they should have. Clicking on cards and having the game not respond was frustrating.

Flag Grunthex October 1, 2012 7:28 PM PDT
The first loss was still entirely my fault, sorry Sean.   But really, who expects sacrificing a Spiritmonger to Consuming Vapors to be a better move than saccing a blood artist?  But that was the game breaker.

Either way, great games, good luck to you guys in the rest of the tourney!

Hey guys from the team: We Recycle, we Rent To Own have a 7 hour time difference as it stands. My partner tells me you suggested we stay up until 2 am on a Friday night for us, but that's a bit pushing it. I have college, my partner has work.
Tuesday and Wednesday we are available from 11 pm (6 am for you) to 1 am (8 am for you). Though we rarely make it to 1 am. Thursday and Friday this week is a bit unclear my partner will specify what days he can make it home early. But Friday at 2 am is most likely a no go for us.

Yeah, with that Lord of Extinction on the board, I was just imagining something like this guy would have been useful. Well... or anything, really. I feel like everyone played really well and made good choices. The cards just played out the way they did.

The second game may have been shorter if Lance/Garet had gotten a Mountain on the board. I used Jester's Cap to eliminate two of his Demigod of Revenge and his Massacre Wurm but he managed to get one (or two) anyway. We had them down to 4 life, but then we ran out of gas, and a Mind Rot from Shin had just taken away two of my Steamcore Weird s. Like they said, excellent match. :D

Flag LanceKalzas October 2, 2012 3:27 AM PDT
I had two Demigods in my hand when you popped the Cap.  Not drawing a Mountain earlier really hurt because I had a Blightning, Singe-Minded Ogre and a couple other things in my hand that I could have used.  By the time I drew the Mountain, it only made sense to cast my first Demigod and then my second when the first died.

The matches were epic and well played, which is exactly how I like them regardless of who wins.

I was thinking... could we try highlighting match results like so:

Absolutely amazing series (at least in my book)

Series deciding Game 3:
Not drawing a mountain for Garet Jax until very late forced us to have me play a lot of my creatures before I wanted to, wanting to first play Asceticism to keep defense up without WingspanTT being able to kill them. Alas that was not the case due to the great pressure and the indestructible Hero of Bladehold, thanks to Dauntless Escort from Destricted and WingspanTT's enless supply of Mana Leaks

I ultimately made the mistake of not Maestrom Pulsing 2 of Destricted's green tokens knowing that all they needed was 1 plains to bring back Hero of Bladehold after they flashed Marshall's Anthem; add to that Garet not keeping mana open to Chaos Warp the Hero....This allowed for a fitting and amazingly BRUTAL series ending Timewarp; into Overrun/Phrophetic Bolt/Sigil Blessing.

Hope to play with you guys again sometime as it was truly an amazing series   Good luck and have T3 bring home the championship (totally selfish here so I can say we lost to the champs LOL)!

The round goes to team We Recycle.
Unfortunately my partner: owensimring of team Rent To Own lost all his unlocks and progress earlier today. After trying to recover the decks and much appreciated help from Flush, we were unable to restore owen's decks. Therefore Rent To Own concedes this round.
Again I'm sorry Wint3rSt0rm & Hebihime16 for asking you guys to wake up early to such a bad turn of events. Get some much needed rest and good luck in the next round.

The bracket has been updated for ROUND 5. The following teams need to complete their matches before Tuesday, October 9th:

My Kids Are Better Than Me At MTG vs. Team Selizznyet

Wee Just Beat the Dragonauts!
 vs. The Raging Goblins

If the winners of those matches are able to play each other over the weekend (ahead of schedule), then go for it. The loser's bracket has a little bit of catching up to do before We Recycle will have their next challenger.

Hey Pink, unfortunately 4-5 PDT (still on daylights saving here) is too late for my partner (he lives in Israel, that's after midnight for him).  I can wake up earlier than 9am and he can be on then.. but later than 1pm is a little tough for my friend, he could go probably 1 hour later than posted, but that's about it...2pm PDT.  I hope we can work something out!

Sorry to hear that PinkPutty. I'll mark Wee Just Beat the Dragonauts as a concession. The Raging Goblins will go on to match against the winner of the Selizznyet / My Kids Are... match.

There has been a consistent issue because of the time difference with players outside the Pacific/Central/Eastern time zones. Outside of my traditional warning message (see my original post for the tourney) for players outside those time zones, the inconvenience has made me cautious to attempt another 2HG any time soon. Maybe it's possible to run multiple brackets for various time zones, that way players on different continents won't be forced to match during the early morning hours.

Flag minddrifter October 8, 2012 6:02 PM PDT
I'm sorry to hear you are conceding..I'm also sorry about the timezone difference.  I would have to agree Sean, perhaps 2hg tourneys need to be timezone specific (well, regional, US, Europe/Africa, etc.)  I look forward to a more traditional 1v1 tourney, as it is a lot easier to get things done.  I am having fun in the 2hg tourney though.  Thanks for the hosting!

I just want to say that a 2hg tournament is really fun. But from my personal experience so far, the most difficult part of this was the time frame for the rounds. I think it would be a lot better if the rounds would say happen on the weekends? When most people don't work and can have a week to set up a time.

Flag minddrifter October 8, 2012 8:23 PM PDT
Perhaps there should be days and times posted, and if you can't meet that requirement you can't participate.  I also agree that weekends are better for most people, even if it isn't the case for me atm.
Flag PinkPutty October 8, 2012 8:38 PM PDT
Considering that I think this is the only major time problem we've had (If I remember correctly) I'd say this is going better than hoped. Honestly, this is more of Fuddle and me not having free time over the weekend due to stupid "real life" stuff. :p

Thanks for having the tournament though, it was really fun while it happened

I understand putty, RL will come and bite you in the arse every time, lol.  I agree, it has been a lot of fun so far.  Drop me a line if you see me on Steam, perhaps we can still play some friendly games of magic (duels, 2hg, its all good as long as it isnt planechase :P)

That's fine. Seeing how the remaining bracket sets will rely on only a single match taking place, I'm removing the dates from my original post.

Going forward for those who have matches scheduled - you'll have six people waiting on your games to happen at any given time (seven people including your partner). With that in mind, please try to complete your matches as soon as possible.

Rent To Own wins 2 to 1 vs My Kids Are Better Than Me At MTG.

First I'd like to give appreciation to team: My Kids Are Better Than Me At MTG for playing two tournament rounds in one day.

Now onto the recap:

Game 1: Was quite the start from team My Kids Are Better Than Me At MTG with Sootstoke Kindler and Rancor got in for a few turns of damage. All seemed lost with My Kids Are Better Than Me At MTG having a Grave Titan and 2x Zombie tokens as well as Vulturous Zombie but Rent To Own played Breaking Point and that wiped the field. Followed up with burn and kill spells eventually the life of each team was below 7 and Prophetic Bolt gave Rent To Own the win.

Game 2: This one was more or less in the favor of My Kids Are Better Than Me At MTG with the grand finish of 2x Demigod Of RevengeAshenmoor Liege, and Pelakka Wurm sealed the game.

Game 3: With my partner (owensimring) drawing 3x Wrecking Ball in his opening hand, I could not help myself and had to say it: "Nice balls!" Sadly not all of them were used as he was stuck with 3 mana for some time. Team Rent To Own opened up with Vexing Devil but it didn't stay as My Kids Are Better Than Me At MTG decided to take the 4 damage. My Kids Are Better Than Me At MTG opened up with Viridian Emissary and Rent To Own dropped a second Vexing Devil which lived this time. Act Of Treason allowed Rent To Own steal Viridian Emissary swing in with it and the Devil then Terminate the Emissary giving me 4n0th1n9 extra land. This game was also very close, strong plays from both teams. But eventually as Finnsidious said "The one with the most Demigods wins!" So game 3 went to Rent To Own.

Without a doubt this was very close all 3 games and I'd like to say Flush it's sad it was not your team that we faced, but I can see how tough a time you had. It's on to the finals now.
Flag minddrifter October 12, 2012 7:48 PM PDT

This match was like every match we played in the tournament; opponents who were good players, polite opponents, and close games.    Had a really good time in all the games in all the rounds.   Thanks everybody.    Our match with Rent to Own was so close, all 3 games both teams were below 10 life and I felt like every game could have gone either way.    Good luck everyone in the finals.

Team We Recycle and Team Rent To Own want to ask if there is any trouble if we play the finals next weekend cause we arent really successful in scheduling a day and time during the week?
Flag Wizards_Sean October 15, 2012 4:22 PM PDT
Just to be clear - We Recycle has no open times during the week at all? Or you've just been unsucessful thus far in the tournament?

Either way, if you can work out a solid time for next weekend, that would work. Good luck to both teams

The issue is that during the times We Recycle are available (back from university) that's when Rent To Own are at work and or college. We have a seven hour time difference and that's what makes it hard to do during the week. We've discussed it and if it has to happen before the weekend it will be Thursday night EST time, but both teams will be exhausted. One coming back from work, the other's waking up early. So we decided that the weekend should be the best time.

Flag Psychosomasis October 20, 2012 3:44 PM PDT
After a week of planning and a ton of waiting on my partner to show up the finals are finished.

Rent To Own wins 2 to 1 vs We Recycle.

Game 1: Wint3rSt0rm was stuck at 4 mana for some time, while Hebihime16 lost his whole hand to Blightning and Blazing Specter. Needless to say with card advantage and straight burn Rent To Own took the win.

Game 2: With Rent To Own mana flooded and unable to deal with the early threats and the amounts of them. Finally finished off by Pelakka Wurm along side Demigod Of Revenge and Blazing Specter. Team We Recycle took game 2.

Game 3: This one was the most interesting of them all. With owensimring having a Demigod Of Revenge along with Demonic Tutor in the starting hand. On the draw I drew Compulsive Research, and once owen saw that he tutored for a second Demigod Of Revenge. Now the game looked set, until a turn 3 Pernicious Deed played by Hebihime16. Compulsive Research, allowed owen to draw a third Demigod Of Revenge and put two in the grave. Letting Wint3rSt0rm Reanimate one of them. After we dealt with that, it was our turn 5 and it was too risky to bring out a demigod, but owen drew a Wrecking Ball. I proposed to wait, then ball a land and Pernicious Deed will not have 5 mana to kill the Demigods. It paid off Hebihime16 played an Evolving Wilds allowing owen to ball one of the untapped lands at the end step. So with 4 mana and deed, the Demigods can go in for 15 so we though! Unfortunately only 1 Demigod came out after owen cast one from the hand. So with 2 on the field and 1 in the grave we went in for 10 points of damage. Short while later with life totals below 4 on each side, I top decked Beacon Of Destruction. So game 3 and the finals go to team Rent To Own.

This tournament had it's ups and downs with my partner loosing all his progress and prompting a concede but we came back and took the win. Thanks Sean for setting this up and all the participants, it was great fun to play.

Gruunthex is right! Because this is a double elimination, and Rent to Own came up from the loser's bracket, that means We Recycle has only lost once in the tournament and gets another shot at the victory. Rent to Own and We Recycle need to play another match to decide the ultimate outcome of the tourney!

Sorry for not seeing this coming ahead of time. I should've let you know it was a possibility. The bracket has been updated.

I don't quite understand this. Rent to Own just like team We Recycle lost only once due to saved progress being lost. But we we're up for another round. Will take about a week to set it up since our times are off. But alright.

Before this thread goes the way of the dodo, I wanted to declare the Tourney officially over due to problematic cirsumstances with the two remaining teams. I believe the entire tournament had a great run and wanted to thank everybody involved. There are currently other Steam tourneys going on, but I plan to run a fresh bracket soon and welcome everybody to join in once it's up!
