Hey. Pun. Anyway. The Uncharted Realms article that just came out www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.a... implies the Firemind has some interesting ideas reguarding, essentially, portals from one place to another. Sunhome and the Orzhov main chapel are specifically mentioned. Places that it would be right handy to be able to walk your guys into if you were, say, planning to destroy those guilds. As everyone knows, only villians plan, so between the special attention the Izzet have been getting and the way this information was presented (you could feel the special care that was taken to show where these portals led) I am going to say Mr. Mizzt is going to be at least an aggresser moving the story forward in RtR.
Thoughts?

Also, looking up how to shorten a link because that's hideous.

I don't think the Izzet are going to be the villains of this story.
They are certainly going to be the catalyst, but you're putting a lot of importance on what was essentially an accident... and at the end of the day, it wasn't a successful experiment.

So yeah, I think you're jumping too far to conclusions out of reach.

Mostly, the point of that particular story tie was to pay special heed to Krenko, Mob Boss 's little story arc.

For the moment, the Firemind's plans are obviously mysterious, though you could make an argument for him being evil for burning people alive at a whim.

That's not an excuse. Especially when most targets are members of his own guild.

Not an excuse to you, but that doesn't really matter from his perspective does it?

I'm nearly certain that Niv probably cares less about harming his own guild members than anyone else. And he probably cares very little about that.

In the process, the clearing we call knowledge expands, but the more it expands, the longer its perimeter and the more ignorance comes into view." -Matt Ridley, Genome

Yes. It also doesn't matter from Bolas' perspective, yet he is considered a villain.

Yes, he is considered a villain.

By humans.

We know he practically worships power as the only thing that matters. To an ancient Elder Dragon, maybe it IS the only thing that matters. The reason he is such a 'villain' in the first place is because he is, in fact, above human morality.

I've said it before and I'll say it a thousand more times if I have to: Being above or more than human does not excuse you from morality. All sentient/sapient beings are obligated, and being higher up on that scale only tightens moral law's grip. You're required to lead by example. Great power great responsibility all that wonderful crap.

Being smarter or more powerful than everyone else doesn't mean you get a free ticket to be a bully. It doesn't matter if you don't see or comprehend the system because you think its too far beneath you; ignorance isn't an excuse.
