Me and my friend were playing and he tried to sac Flkenrath Aristocrat on itself to null my Oblivion Ring and create a morbid effect for Tragic Slip just wanted to see if that was legal.

Falkenrath Aristocrat is "a creature", so it can be sacrificed to its ability (there are some combos to make it not a creature, in that case you can't )

Yes, that's legal.  It would be worded as "Sacrifice another creature" or similiarly if you couldn't sacrifice itself.
