Dumped the blue I was trying for Diregraf Captain and going straight GB. Deathrite Shaman is awesome reach for GB and great for the mirror as is Grisly Salvage they go well together, and being instant speed is awesome. So far no problems casting the 2 geists or the 4 messengers, but I'm sure it's bound to happen at some point. Let me know what you think.

More consistency then Jund zombies I think due to an easier manabase while still having reach through Shaman, Rancor, and Troll. The Garruk's could be something else if anyone can think of something better.

Creatures:
4 Lotleth Troll
4 Diregraf Ghoul
4 Gravecrawler
4 Geralf's Messenger
3 Dreg Mangler
3 Deathrite Shaman
2 Strangleroot Geist

Instants:
4 Tragic Slip
2 Grisly Salvage
2 Ultimate Price
1 Abrupt Decay

Enchantments:
2 Rancor

Planeswalkers:
2 Garruk Relentless

Lands:
4 Woodland Cemetery
4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Cavern of Souls
2 Golgari Guildgate
7 Swamp
2 Forest

Maybe it's the alcohol talking, but Pack Rat looks kinda good, 'cause ALL dead cards in your hand become gigantic.

I'm just worried about the rest of my deck if I have THAT many dead cards. Maybe valuecantrip.dec featuring Pack Rat, but other than that I think he belongs in Cube/Limited at most. That said, still picking up about 10 for my cube.

Catowner, change your avatar back. It confused me.

lol, i remember this one point where i tried to change my avatar, and i received a bunch of complaints... (i tried to change to my avatar back in 2006)

Blue is the best color ever.  How do you deal?

So I tweaked the above list -1 Tragic Slip for a +1 Abrupt Decay. I also added a 3rd Geist, bumping me to 61 cards(I've always been a 61er). What's really bugging me is the 2 Garruk's. It's great to recover from a sweeper with as we can imediately start making wolves but it's not really that threatening I feel. I thought about Desecration demon but he just seems really bad against zombie mirrors, lingering souls, thragtusk etc...
Do you think 2 BloodGift demon in that slot would be worth it? Phyrexian arena on a flying body, but does the extra 1cc make it too expensive?

^ I do like bloodgift demon . It flies and generates card advantage. Is it better than thragtusk ? I don't know. Depends on what you are playing against I guess. What are you thinking about putting it in for?

Also, I am going to continue to argue against the use of both geralf's messenger and strangleroot geist in the same deck. I actually ran some numbers and here is what I got...

LAND:
4x overgrown Tomb
4x Woodland Cemetery
12x swamp
3x forest

Probability of having access to GG on turn 2 = 33%
Probability of having access to GB on turn 2 = 77%
Probability of having access to BBB on turn 3 = 61%
Probability of having access to GBB on turn 3 = 89%

This was based off 30, seven-card hands generated plus two more cards to simulate two turns on the play. While my experiment was not very extensive (I wish I had the time to generate 100 hands), these numbers still carry weight.

Conclusions? In a deck where black is the dominant color, and in a deck where you want to play a 3-drop, on turn 3 mind you, that costs BBB, it is VERY unrealistic to expect to play strangleroot geist on turn two and then followup with geralf's messenger on turn 3. For this to occur, you must play 2 overgrown tomb / woodland cemetery in your first 2 turns. One cannot rely on that happening consistently.

If you are looking for another 2-drop, I posted a nice list on the previous page. I hope you find it helpful.

Thanks for doing the math with the mana base however can you look at it with the following and tell me what your numbers are? You're forgetting about caverns and the 2 gates I am playing. Normally I'm calling zombie with my first cavern, but if I hit a second one I call spirit, and third calls elf.

4 Woodland Cemetery
4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Cavern of Souls
2 Golgari Gate
7 Swamp
2 Forest

Also while t2 Geist, t3 Messenger is great and getting color screwed from that can suck, there are plenty of other t2 geist, t3 X that you can get a lot of value from.

IE. if I went t2 geist, and t3 had the option of Messenger, mrangler I would drop the mangler as I prefer to drop the messenger later as a closer because I know even if it gets chumped I am at least getting in for 2 when I play it.

While the earlier I play strangler the earlier it get's in for damage.

Now you can still get the screwjob of an opening hand with geist, messenger, forest, swamp , swamp, but I am not keeping that either way unless I've got some more action. I really believe the risk is worth the reward here, now it may be that 2 geists is the right number compared to the 3 I am testing right now but I'll let you know.

For the Bloodgifts they would take the place of Garruk but I guess you're right thragtusks could be there as well.

It was revealed to me in a dream.  All the cards were in my dream except for three slots which I plugged in as Vault Skirge.

FULL DISCLOSURE:  The dream was post AVR so there was a copy of Slayer's Stronghold.  I decided to keep it pre AVR in my post here.

EDIT: I just remembered.  The Skirges might have been 2x Whipflare and 1x something else, probably War and Peace.

EDIT2:  Currently 4-0 in my first four games with this.  My opponents have been very angry.  I fought off a Wurmcoil from Grixis for six turns before I found my second Dispatch.  Jeez, I can do a lot of damage.

EDIT3: Streak broken.  Lost to an unexpected Overrun.    Cracking a Shrine for 10 wasn't enough.

How Kedi tests his decks:

also, I've been playtesting this deck in my sleep today
that kinda freaked me out

Why the hate on anointed, cats?

I always think of the Cat's Meow painted wood carvings when I read your name... That's just a random factoid..

Would the interaction between Corpsejack Menace , Lotleth Troll , and various critters with Scavenge be worthwhile to look into for Standard?

It works pretty well in Limited, but that's a different beast.

Chuck Slitherhead to the Troll for two +1/+1 counters, then Scavenge it for another two +1/+1 counters. Your Troll goes to 6/5 Trample for nilch.

Also, I'm kinda with Catowner on the Desecration Demon . Black has plenty of mass-killing abilities to deal with tokens. A couple of decent ones offhand are Mutilate and Sever the Bloodline . You'd just have to make sure your Swamp count doesn't cause your Demon to get Mutilated with all the other fodder. Outside of tokens, the Demon is a free Geth's Verdict (sans the life loss) every turn.

Can't be that bad.

I'd say if you want to run a 4-drop, you could do far worse than Corpsejack Menace , but bare in mind that it's effect is very snowball, and over commiting to it could result in free losses. So "buyer beware" as well.

It's the fact that it sits in the 4-drop slot that has me on the fence about it, because it shares that slot with Desecration Demon and I feel that a 6/6 flier for 4 is more "cost effetive" than a 4/4 non-flier for 4.

However, Corpsejack's ability synergizes well with the Demon, giving him +2/+2 if the opponent decides to offer a sacrifice to keep him abated. Being able to get double value from a timely Scavenge can turn a weaker creature into a moderate threat very quickly. Dreg Mangler makes a good candidate for a deck like this. 3/3 haste as a 3-drop is good, and giving another creature up to +6/+6 when Scavenged with a Corpsejack in play can turn a great utility creature like Deathrite Shaman into a 7/8 beatstick.

This might also be going slightly off-kilter, but Corpsejack could also work well with Champion of Lambholt , giving him +2/+2 whenever a creature comes into play and making your guys that much harder to block. Blessing of Nature would also benefit, giving eight +1/+1 counters for as little as 1 mana.

Dunno... just throwing out ideas, really. I like Corpsejack, and I feel it can see play with all the mechanics running around that it can help with.
