Havoc Festival (Rare) -
Enchantment
Players can't gain life.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player loses half of his or her life, rounded up.

"Players can't gain life."

I haven't seen that before!
Flag LordManshoon September 3, 2012 9:06 PM PDT
This is right up Rakdos's alley, no denying that.

I love the flavor and the artwork is neat simply for unstoppable waves of aggressive imps.
Flag TEA_DEMON September 3, 2012 9:11 PM PDT
i suppose it will be ok in limited since it smashes through board stalls like nobody's business.
Flag Shadowchu September 3, 2012 9:11 PM PDT
Rakdos getting better and better here.
Flag RorixCollector September 3, 2012 9:12 PM PDT
Obligatory do-nothing anti-life gain enchantment that's in every block and sucks so bad you want to punch yourself in the face when you open it.
Flag magicpablo666 September 3, 2012 9:13 PM PDT
Didn't someone just make this in the Ravnica preview contest over in YMtC?

I really like the Rakdos flavor this time around. They're all about Carnivals and Parties and Candied Hands and stuff. I'm into it.

Combos with Exquisite Blood !!!

Wait.......
Flag Keino September 3, 2012 9:20 PM PDT

This.

...Hang on, I just want to say that again...

This.

...Is the card that i've been waiting for. This is the rakdos card that can do well in multiplayer, and make players think twice about gain-life strategies. It's also an excellent combo with wound reflection .

And best of all, it will be a dollar box rare!!!

Who else other than EDH or multiplayer people would buy this? Even in those scenes the effect is not too ridiculous to make it a staple, but it's just what a casual player like myself needs. Maybe not immediately, but it won't take long for these to end up in the dollar box.

Yay!  More of these bad cards!  That wasn't sarcasm.  Bad cards like this, combined with good cards, are why Ravnica was awesome.  It was just full of so many neat effects that even the bad cards didn't feel like punches in the face.

Also I like how much more flavorful Rakdos has become.  The old Ravnica cards just seemed to have the flavor of destructive folks.  Now it's increasingly obvious they're huge partyers.

I like this card, it has a whole "put up or I'll shut you up next turn when you have half your life" feeling to it, very very Rakkdos.

This does horrible things in multiplayer, and replaces Sorin Markov in my vampire deck post-rotation; very nice, especially along with a new Standard dual colour kill spell.

Return to Ravnica is already my favourite set ever.

No I don't think that would work as they say damage and this is loss of life.

Well, with Innistrad having just come out I'm betting there'll be just a few more (not a proper tribe, mind you, but still). In fact, Havoc Festival looks like it might fit well in Ravnica (once you take off the Rakdos symbol, of course).

Flag speedy92286 September 5, 2012 12:45 AM PDT
I told my friends that Rakdos would have an anit-healing card to counter the decks they made from M13 but they didn't believe me. With the card that looks through their decks, that means I can get rid of their counter to his baby if they have one option of removing it.

Seems a sideboard at best but I still love it.
Flag Glare_of_the_Loxodon September 5, 2012 5:34 AM PDT
Classic Rakdos rare, but meh playability wise.
Flag Bloodartist September 5, 2012 6:38 AM PDT
I love the card concept, and Id love to be able to play this in constructed beyond commander but I don't think I will..

However, one thing about the card I don't like, and thats the art. It's too... cute.
Flag Matsumoto September 5, 2012 6:50 AM PDT
I think Wizards is making too many cards that fit well into commander, but don't work in standard.

They should stop focusing all their attention on commander, it's getting annoying.
Flag javert September 5, 2012 5:43 PM PDT
This is one of the best designed for EDH cards: you are the last one to feel its effect so you can safely play it and expect to have a little havoc among the opponents. After being victims of this card, the tapped out opponents will refuse to remove it until every player have had their share of it and the untapped players with an answer in hand may be pondering whether it is good or not to remove it and let you get away with it. Overall, there will be some good situations around this card.

Of course, it will suck the moment you rip the 2nd one from a pack.

Most Magic players play casual and new players don't like opening up small cards as their rare when they buy boosters.

Really? Then why do we also have stuff like Dreadbore, Abrupt Decay or all these lands that just make mana of two colors at rare too?

You have to admit that is pretty poor as explanation and just good as a cheap excuse.

I don't think most players play casual. I think most play FNM, and commander these days.
Saying most ppl play casual is like saying Wizards shouldn't host tournaments...because no one would show up.

Because Wizards need a few cards that spikes have to pay their ***** off for... And they don't like planeswalker hate at low rarities.

Are you saying commander isn't casual? And if you think that most people play Commander, doesn't that contradict your point that they should make less cards for it?

And no, even if only 10% of players played in tournaments, that would still be a huge number. I think there may be some confusion on what the word "most" means here.
