Islands has built a huge number of decks. Most of them are good. Some aren't.

He's definitely built more duds than diamonds. You have to remember he only posts a percentage of the decks that he comes up with. Mathias leaves no page unturned whenever a new set is released. I find him just as good as, if not better, than Conley and Sam Black in that regard. But there's only one Gassy Knoll for every hundred or so Thrumming Rats, Death of a Thousand Stings infinite combo, Nyxathid builds.

This has been explained by Zac Hill.
Basically, if your Aggro deck contains any cards other than mana lands, creatures, and burn spells, they don't consider it Aggro. They consider it "Disruptive Aggro". That's step 1 - Unless you play a bad aggro deck, you're not aggro.
Second, they consider "Disruptive Aggro" to occupy the same concept space in the metagame as Control. That is, a deck like Delver, or even White Weenie if it has a Mana Leak in it, is considered to be Control. That's step two.
That basically means that all decks are creature-based aggressive decks, and WotC thinks that's reflective of a healthy format.
It's really not even about giving niche cards to black.
It should be about giving black cards to Niche.

I'm pretty sure it's just Zac Hill, not R&D as a whole. Innistrad was a very "creatures matter" block like Lorwyn, Onslaught, Invasion etc. where that kind of attitude towards roles is fairly understandable for the sake of design. But once you get into the bigger picture "disruptive aggro" is the kind of deck made to prey on control decks, not the kind meant to replace them.

Or is it Hasbro pushing them to acquire newer players? And newer players prefer creatures and hate losing to control and combo....

According to Forsythe, Habro doesn't make them do anything. The only concession they have made is to go to a core set every year so that their revenue is consistent.
Supposedly.

I'm pretty sure new players are happy if they just get to play big swingy creatures against one another rather than in a tournament setting. Besides, they can't AFFORD to play most of the big swingy cards...
So is this a misguided business plan or a misguided design plan?
