I'm really loving these cards. This is shaping up to be an utterly delightful set.
It's interesting how you can see the struggle on the Simic cards between their old and new identities... to the point where their conflict of identity almost seems to BE their identity. Experiment One struck me as odd for that reason--the name sounds more Vigean than Fathom Edict...ian (I guess) to me. Love the weird creature types.
Gruul seems a bit more diverse than their flavor blurbs made them out to be, which is nice. I like their ability too. It doesn't feel that resonant to me flavorfully but it gives Red Green interesting decisions that don't just involve playing creatures and turning them sideways so that's nice.

So about Murder Investigation This is an extremely flavorful card, but one thing is bothering me Are these Azorius Cops. Boros Cops, Guildless Cops?

They're called Haazda.

Man, I forgot that the Haazda were a thing.
I love that card, and Gridlock. They're really doing a good job of capitalizing on the whole city setting in this block.

There's a guy in the YMTC forum, Riovard, who is making a noir mafia world, Velicta. Its got a lot of incedental crossover with these top down city cards.

Something interesting pointed out on MaRo's blog:Experiment Kraj literally means the final experiment. Experiment One is the Simic starting fresh.

He's basically going: "Yeah, let's say that's intended..." *shifty look* It could just as well mean they're starting all over, redoing old experiments.
"What is etherium but the next logical step?" It's all my fault.

Incedentally; "Human Ooze", "Lizard Drake", "Bird Mutant"? Simic gets the coolest creature type lines.

Simic gets the coolest creature type lines.
And considering that the krasis are magical fusions of different creatures, we're bound to get even more. Squirrel Leviathan, anyone?

That's brilliant even if it is accidental. Yeah, I love the narrative arc that the Simic are getting this time around. They really feel like they have progression as a guild.
Incidentally, thoughts on Burning-Tree Emissary? Not your typical Gruul there.
EDIT @Thoctar: I thought of Riovard's work as soon as I saw Murder Investigation. It was a weird moment, actually, since it was so familiar seeming. :P His plane is definitely on the short list of planes that I would love to see join M:EM... I'm just completely in love with his work.
