"When blocking or blocked, this creature assigns combat damage equal to its toughness rather than its power."
And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real. --Erin McKean, Redefining the Dictionary

Er, actually, make that "While" blocking or blocked. Just realized that I said "When" for something that isn't supposed to be a triggered ability.

"As long as" is for durations, and while arguably this is one, it's not really like the others that use that templating. "While" has no special meaning or use--appears in a couple places, mostly reminder text for Convoke and Phasing, but also on the Flagbearers and some individual cards: Panglacial Wurm , Laboratory Maniac , Pyromancer Ascension , Time Vault , Word of Command . It seems flexible enough to cover this situation nicely.

Actually, they now ( almost ) consistently use "for as long as" when they're talking about durations, leaving "as long as" for conditions. See Angelic Overseer , for example.

Duly noted. But I still think 'While' makes for nicer wording.
