I know there has been talk about this on other threads, but with the pending release of a certain product, I was wondering how everyone felt about the over-sized cards Wizards has been pushing this past year.  I'm not talking about Planechase or Archenemy (as these cards are used in additional, supplimentary decks for their formats and are not meant to be included in your 60 or 100 card decks).  I'm talking about the ones in the Commander precons, the Helvault promotion at the prerelease and now this new product (which many seem to be disappointed with over in FSS)... the ones that are essentially useless in a game if you don't have the standard-sized version as well, or you *gasp* proxy a standard-sized one.

I personally hate them.  I hope/think most of you agree.  Maybe if enough people voice their distaste for them, we won't be subjected to them any longer.  A man can dream...

So, what is your take on the over-sized cards?

They do make for rather sturdy paper airplanes.

I like them to denote my "command zone"
but when my Commander goes to the battlefield I use the regular version, the oversized version just takes away too much space especially considering there are 4 or more people around the table

Why such a strong, strong HATE for them?

I hate things that I find completely useless or asinine, like someone wearing a big black leather jacket on a 100 degree day.  "Ooh, it looks cool" is not good enough for me.  I am a firm believer of "form follows function", a well-know and proven design concept (much like "less is more"), and in this case, the supposed function of a playing card is to play it in a deck.  The over-sized cards go against this concept.  They don't fit in the deck.  They don't fit in my binders or my card boxes.  And on top of that, they take up more table space than standard-sized cards in a format were table space is already at a premium.  Also, they are included in products or given as promos in the place of what could be useful, standard-sized cards, so they actually have a negative value instead of just being worthless.  I don't think the larger foil art negates all the negative aspects of them, so as such, I detest them.  Simple as that.

I would never go out of my way to purchase them, unless perhaps as a gift.

I think they look really cool as 3 dimensional magic cards. Which you should google, if you're not familiar. Other than that, pretty useless I s'pose.

I usually cut the ones I recieve down to just the art, name, and mana cost so they fit into a regular sleeve.

They are worthless to me because they can't be used to play the game. I know you can have the oversized EDH one's, but I would never use them even if I had them.

Thanks Wotc for not counting archived posts.
If I post without capital letters than means I'm posting from my phone. For some reason it hates typing capital letters.

They make good mini-posters for your bedroom wall? Not that I've ever actually used them for that...actually come to think of it, I don't have any oversized cards. There might be a reason for that.

Eh, that's all I got.

They're dumb, useless, and they take the place of actual stuff.

You can't imagine how thrilled I was when we cracked the Helvault and found those inside.

Winner of the YMTC Ravnica War of the Guilds contest as guild Dimir.

Snapcaster Mage is the best card of all time. How do you deal?
