So there was an article on the main site today about the new EDH product for this year, the Commander's Arsenal. (link: www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.a...). What does everyone think? I personally am pretty underwhelmed so far. Only 18 cards for $75? Sure, the two cards they've spoiled so far (Azusa and Sylvan Library) are already worth quite a bit in foil, but I was expecting to see this to be full of staples. Something more like a Deckbuilder's Toolkit full of EDH goodies. The cards spoiled don't even really fit into most green EDH decks, and I certainly wouldn't consider them to be staples. The oversized cards are just a waste of cardboard. I hate when they do things like this. Give me actual playable cards for my money, not crappy promotional materials that aren't even worth anything to collectors. I do like the other adds on though. While the sleeves are the least exciting or needed (who doesn't already have sleeves?), the life counter and package of counters would be very useful. As for the spoiled art, it's totally a foil version of Command Tower .

I'm pretty underwhelmed myself. The giant foil cards are just dopey. Beyond their lack of collector value, they're impractical in their unplayability. And the counters seem superflous given the number of available viable options. I think the life counter is fantastic, and should probably be made available separately (or come with next summers EDH decks). The foil versions of Commanders like The Mimeoplasm, and others I'm sure, are great. And yes, that's obviously Command Tower. Here's hoping for a foil Spell Crumple.

I'm liking the +/- counters, the life counter, and the sleeves, but they definitely should have included more cards. Hope the 15-16 cards that aren't spoiled will be more than worth it.
I should probably put something here someday. Here's a set I'm working on: http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75842/29422241/Corthenhol_--_A_Work_in_Progress

I doubt they'll reprint Sol Ring again. It was in every Commander deck just last year. They'll probably put it in the next set of decks they make.

The life counter is the only thing that stands out as something I would buy. Unless the cards add up to well over $100 for the existing versions, I see no real reason to pay 75. And I'm not a fan of the new Sylvan Library art. I think I would rather just find a Legends one.

I'm betting the value is going to be pretty good. Sylvan Library hasn't been printed in foil yet (I don't think it has at least), and the normal black bordered version is $40 already. Azusa is $35 for the foil. I'd guess with just those two cards, you're already looking at $40-50 in value and there are still 16 cards left to be spoiled.
That said, I'm pretty much against buying any product just for the value purpose. If I don't want the other 16 cards badly (as I don't really care about Library or Azusa), I'm not buying it.

Depending on how many of these are printed I expect the Library to end up costing as much as the product does.
