So I have thrown together a red/blue deck that uses the Basalt Monolith / Power Artifact combo for infinite mana. In my deck there are tons of burn spells with X costs that directly translate into player damage. Through testing it, optimally, I can get the combo going and potentially kill my opponent on my 3rd turn, though anywhere between my 4th and 6th is where the win falls. Anyways, as you know I can potentially ram up the colorless mana insanely, but with that I have hit a question: Given that a googolplexian is the largest integer number with a name mathematically before hitting Graham's Numbers, I can ramp up to 999 googolplexian, but say for ****s and giggles I wanted to go above that, do you think anyone would REALLY have a problem, in a casual setting of course, in representing things above 999 googolplexian as "a thousand googolplexians," "a googolplexian googolplexian," "one hundred thousand googolplexians," etc? [kinda how 1,000,000 looks like you could say it as "a thousand thousands" [even if grammatically incorrect]]?

Once you start dealing in numbers like googolplexes (10^(10^100)) that can't even be usefully represented outside of scientific notation, I don't think anyone really cares! I can't really think of anything in Magic where making 999(10^(10^100)) mana is any more necessary than making, say, 20 billion mana or some other large amount. If I happen to generate an unbounded number of mana or creatures, I generally just say "I Fireball you for an arbitrarily large number. Are you going to do anything about it?". Generally it's not necessary to even specify the number unless someone else is doing something infinitely. There's nothing grammatically incorrect about saying "a thousand thousands", it's just inelegant... in the same way there's nothing grammatically incorrect about saying "a googolplex googolplexes". If your casual group is willing to tolerate you using unnecessarily large numbers to sound smug, who's going to stop you?

Deal 100 damage and call it gg.
True post count: 9,900 Thanks Wotc for not counting archived posts. If I post without capital letters than means I'm posting from my phone. For some reason it hates typing capital letters. Go_Texans on MTGO.

I would let them choose a number, and then deal that many million damage. Or deal damage equal to their birthdate, or the shop's phone number or something.

That makes no sense to me.
If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed?

Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch . YAY COLOR IDENTITY
Is algebra really that difficult?
Survey says yes.
You want to make a milky drink. You squeeze a cow.
I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.

At 9001, people start being memetic. After that, it doesn't matter.
Clever deduction Watson! Maybe you can explain why Supergirl is trying to kill me.

It's just...I want to clarify that my means of represnting suck obscene nos. would be gramatically correct, cause I know people sometimes get very pissy when they feel like somebody they're facing is making stuff up.

If you used googol as your ammount of mana, I'd mana leak the hell out of you as you cast your X cost spell and I'd argue with you untill you die or give up because you didnt have a googol and 3. You want to know why I'd argue with you untill you give up? Because I think that anyone that doesnt say infinite mana, instead using a term that not everyone might know or understand, is a pretentious jerk. So how about you just say infinite mana like everyone else?

So how about you just say infinite mana like everyone else?
Can't. The rules clearly state that if you have a loop which generates an arbitrarily large amount of resources or actions, you must specify a non-infinite number.
I've even had judges ask me how many times I want to complete an arbitrary loop at a 5k, and declared that I had that much mana.
Etiamnunc sto, etiamsi caelum ruat.
