I wasn't around for Ravnica Standard, but in the early testing of Modern it was simply broken

People really underestimate this card. He's the ultimate threat against any control deck. He can come back regardless of how he was killed, even if he was countered. If you don't have any spells in your hand, then you can just sac a couple lands to get him back. If they use a board wipe, then he just comes back stronger than before. He's an enemy that just keeps coming. And we still don't know the self-mill cards Golgari will have yet. Sure, maybe the cost is a bit high to get it back, but remember that green is the color most likely to have a high number of lands to sacrifice. If you can cast Liliana of the Veil on turn 3 (or turn 2 if you mana ramp) and use her discard ability, then at the very least he enter the battlefield as a 3/3, probably more though since some creatures have probably already died by now. Her -2 makes for great disruption, giving you plenty of time to get creatures in your graveyard. What would make this deck so effective is that while Jarad is amazing against control decks due to his ability to come back even when countered, Liliana's discard and sacrifice abilities can seriously hurt aggro decks. Also, in a Black/Green deck with a graveyard theme, it would be foolish not to have some Ghoultree s. Then imagine sacrificing it with Jarad's fling and instantly zapping half of your opponent's life. The fact that Jarad then gets +1/+1 is just a bonus.

No, because a badass lich and leader of the Golgari can't be a poor 0/1.

Can I point something out? Just for reference...... Look at the bottom: Copyright is 1993-2012 and there's LLC after Wizards of the Coast. Maybe, just maybe, this is evidence that the Rootborn Defenses card is still a fake? I'm just sayin'
Residual energetic and psychic emenations from the spark of planewalkers going in and out of the blind eternities like it was a windmill eventually coalesced into beings named eldrazi who by their very nature could not consume mundane sources of nourishment to sustain their existence.

Isn't this from the duel decks though? And doesn't the duel deck come out first? Any change in the format would wait until the actual expansion is released.

there is already a card out with the new copyright (promo in a magazine)
but I guess it depends on when each set/card was "locked in" and sent to the print shop
