i know i play USZ in a few of my "real" control decks right now, and the only thing holding it back is delver. otherwise, its a legitmate card against everyone else. with control having new mana rocks and control magic basicaly being nonexistent outside of control mirrors, sphinx's revelation will be a helluva late game card for UW control decks.

I just like entreat better.
I'd rather have a 4/4 flier than 2 life + 2 cards.
1000th post November 26, 2010. Where Islands gets his decks: Spoiler:

It was revealed to me in a dream. All the cards were in my dream except for three slots which I plugged in as Vault Skirge.
FULL DISCLOSURE: The dream was post AVR so there was a copy of Slayer's Stronghold. I decided to keep it pre AVR in my post here.
EDIT: I just remembered. The Skirges might have been 2x Whipflare and 1x something else, probably War and Peace.
EDIT2: Currently 4-0 in my first four games with this. My opponents have been very angry. I fought off a Wurmcoil from Grixis for six turns before I found my second Dispatch. Jeez, I can do a lot of damage.
EDIT3: Streak broken. Lost to an unexpected Overrun.  Cracking a Shrine for 10 wasn't enough.

Entreat and the draw spell perfomr different functions. It's like saying I'd rather have this Thragtusk than lands in my deck.

They perform different functions, correct. One stabilizes and/or wins you the game. The other draws cards and gains life.

And they don't compete for the same slots in a deck either, so the comparison is pretty odd.

Its like comparing Mystical Tutor and Second Considerations, or whatever that 4 mana draw 4 discard 2 instant was that the old Teachings deck played. One was the major engine, one was a source of CA.

They DO compete for the same slots. You really don't need more than 4 X spells that are only good in the superlategame.
I just think that if you have enough mana to make revelation good, then you would be better off with entreat, even without the miracle cost.

Card draw and life gain is different, just because it's an X spell doesn't make them the same. The problem with Entreat, is that it's an unreliable win condition for a deck that can't just flip it over whenever it wants, it often need to deal with the board. Like you said, they are for the late game, but if you draw an entreat before you need it, you've got a wasted card pretty much.
