I was playing a two headed giant game and had a Riders of Gavony out with protection from goblin. As it was a casual game, we were allowing all sets. The opponent cast a Fodder Launch against my Riders of Gavony. Seeing as how I had picked Goblins for protection, would Fodder Launch be able to legally target it, since it does have a subtype of Goblin as a sorcery? Please reference a rule with this. Thank you.

Please reference a rule with this. Which rule? The protection rule?
702.15b A permanent or player with protection can't be targeted by spells with the stated quality and can't be targeted by abilities from a source with the stated quality.

that's why autocard helps Riders of Gavony does indeed say "protection from creatures of the chosen type", so it would not be protected from tribal spells cyphern's answer would be correct if it had "protection from the chosen type" (which I assumed it said as well )
