I just wanted to say that I really appreciate all the work that Sean has put into the Steam tourny.  It has been a blast so far and I like the swiss system.

As per the post linked in the OP, Wizards are "working on fixes".  However, is there any official word as to whether that refers to actual gameplay bugs or simple to things like the toughness of Yeva and Firewing Phoenix?  I know that both the iPad and Steam versions have had those fixed, and Wizards has said they will fix those, but have they actually officially stated that any other bugs would be fixed, at all?

Sure. They are fixing the toughness of the cards you mentioned, plus...

Serra ascendant is not an insta 6/6 on 2hg

Silent arbiter can't be avoided by swinging/blocking with everything and then waiting for the timer to expire.

I have no idea about anymore, lo, was ages since I read the thread. Check page one of this one to see, I think there is a link to the official list.

The ascendant isn't a "fix."  It's not like Yeva or the bird where the card is something in this game that it isn't in the actual card game.  Ascendant works as intended.  They are changing it due to an unbelievable amount of crying about it.  So really we are getting 1 bug fix and 2 cards fixed and 1 card altered to work differently in this environment than it does anywhere else in Magic.  1 bug fix.   1.   One.

Hopefully more will come.  Even still, 1 is more than they did with the DotP2012.

Chancellor of the Spires is one of the worst cards in the deck. With only two of them, you are almost never going to get one in your starting hand. If you do get it in your starting hand, it will just sit there. If you get to cast it, it will get burned immediately.

They did remove the part where you could see what deck your opponent was playing before the game started in 2012, but that wasn't really a bug either (It was a bad call Ripley. It was a bad call....)

@Wizards_Sean,

I turn on my Xbox 360 on Saturday night and all of my progress, decks, unlocked cards are gone and the game is treating me as if I just bought the game yet in Player Status it shows 18 out of 20 achievements and a single player ranking of around 17,000 out of 141,000.  (Please keep in mind I don't take the single player ranking seriously but it is an indication that I did play campaign matches to unlock the majority of my cards).  I had previously finished unlocking all cards about 2 months ago.  My g/f had just finished unlocking all of Garruk's Pack Instinct deck as well so all of her progress is lost.

I contacted Microsoft; they won't do anything.  I contacted Wizards and I was told a "Duels of the Planeswalker" Specialist will call me back.  So far I haven't received a phone call.  I know this has happened to many people, especially on Steam however on Steam there is a defense against it:  don't pick the Cloud option when there's a discrepancy between that and your hard drive.  Xbox 360 users have no such defense and have no way to prevent this from happening (as far as I know).  I play on both by the way.

Do you have any information at all on what we as a player base can do to retrieve our information and do you know anything at all about this supposed "Duels of the Planeswalker" Specialist that calls people back?

Edit:  I also wanted to say this has been an ongoing issue for all 3 versions of the game across all platforms.  My frustration is not directed at you but I think an issue this large going unresolved for this length of time is absolutely ridiculous.

I'm really hopeful that something can be done to restore my content as well as others because I do NOT want to play over 300 matches again (or waste my friends/family's(my dad) time in conceding against me over and over) to unlock all the cards.

Hey lance, beat up the 1st challenge man. its about as quick w/o your dad... but you should totally get the files back on your Xbox.  If i uninstall a game on steam all of my save files are gone.   They only cloud your key's and the install files for the games they provide.  I'm not sure about the Xbox but I have had a number of my friends on the PSN tell me that they couldn't get the DotP progress to back up on thier plus clouds.  So maybe you just have to beat up those suntail hawks and call it good after 3 days =)

Although beating the Suntail encounter is an easy enough way to unlock cards, I'd like to offer my own experience for anyone still unlocking cards. I have found the best opponents are:

Depending on which deck you are unlocking, I've found one of these to be a really quick way to win.  Get the premium unlocks first, then strip down to 60 cards using the cheapest possible cards you can, tuned to beat one of the encounters in particular. After each unlock or two, go back and take out the least appropriate or expensive cards to make wins even quicker. Some decks can work well against more than one of these, but here's my picks:

  • Garruk: #3 Load up on trample creatures to go over the top of fog banks. Prey Upon cheaply kills them and Primal Bellow easily sneaks around the Mana Leaks.
  • Liliana: #1 You have a million and one ways to kill the Pyros, often gaining life at the same time. Pump creatures quickly seal the game.
  • Talrand: #2 Remove all creatures bigger than 3 power, and load up with as many non-creature spells as possible. He cannot raise anything decent or use your spells like Talrand's Invocation against you, and you easily out draw him. You can also bounce back what he steals to your hand.
  • Yeva: #3 All you need is Taunting Elf . This will then force every Fog Bank to block him every turn, letting everything else through. He survives to do it all again over and over.
  • Odric: #2 Like Talrand, focus on cheap creatures and token generating spells which cannot be used against you. Easy pickings.
  • Jace: #2 Use pure mill strategy. Telemin Performance and Grindstone are instant win cards against this guy [thanks Splattercat!] Your creatures aren't scary to be used against you, some could even help ( Dreamborn Muse ).
  • Exalted: #3 You can easily outspeed the Fog Banks with lots of quick creatures, and Tormented Soul wrecks him. Once unlocked Spirit Mantle is an easy win too.
  • Goblins: #2 Concentrate on fast creatures, direct damage and removal. He can only raise feeble blockers which wil barely slow you down.
  • Chandra: #2 Again lots of cheap creatures but mostly just direct damage which is of no use to the necromancer.
  • Ajani: #1 Ajani's Pridemate owns him up, especially if it follows Soul Warden . It's almost unfair. Any toughness boosters put your creatures quickly out of reach, and life gain easily stops you from losing. Quickly he resorts to chump blocking.

Hope that helps someone out there!

Actually Rob, for Jace I would go with #2. Telemin Performance and Grindstone are auto-win on turn 3-5. it's not hard to get 1 of 3 cards in your opening hand. You just have to be careful with your discards on Telemin, but as long as you keep that card in your hand on turn 5 you win instantly.

A quick note on Pyromancers: You always have the first turn so they won't drop a 1/1 until after your third turn.

Aside form that, keep only cards that work against the deck you're facing. I actually used Garruk against the Pyromancers and took out what didn't work specifically against that deck ( Indrik Stomphowler or Sentinel Spider for example). Primordial Hydra is like, your best friend regardless though.

Also, only retool your deck if the unlocks are slowing you down. the longer you spend in the deck manager, the longer it takes to unlock. I can empathize with the OP at least somewhat. I had 3-4 decks unlocked and lost them. Restarting was not fun. It was very daunting indeed.

@HonorMe,

I'd love a response from Sean but the most I can hope for is that Stainless gets the feedback and they finally fix the issue.  I did not unlock the cards by beating up the encounters because that's too boring for me to do it again.  I paid $10 and called it a day.
