If you Mutilate with 5 swamps, your opponents' Titans will sit around and wait a turn to come after you. If you BSZ for 5, their titans are then only 1/1 creatures (though with awesome abilities still). At least then a hard sneeze will take them down...
Counters are better on your opponents than a simple UEoT -x/-x, but then again if your creatures are left tiny and barely useful, you'll wish they were not counters. I think the two cards are about equal in regard to what they do, though you don't need swamps for BSZ, just . Board wipes on sticks are always good options.
If I'm right, I'm right. If I'm wrong, I still believe I'm right. Think of it as religion. dubito ergo sum.
Your being silly. No one would mutilate a titan with 5 swamps without another effect in play. You wait a turn and kill them with your next land drop. Then, if I'm at 7 swamps I'm wishing I had mutilate over bsz. If I'm at 8 mana I want decree of pain to draw cards.
Bsz is playable if one lacks other options or is playing a theme.
When playing Commander, before you add a card to your deck, you have to ask yourself: "Is this card better than Rings ?" If you play commander and don't have your deck[s] in the Decklist Compendium, maybe you should. Or if you're new or looking into the format, the compendium has some good advice for beginners as well as decklists.
Or you can play Bsz, Mutilate, Damnation, Decree, Ostone, Disk...I can't remember what other wrath effects I have in my deck atm.
Exactly. You'll want multiple wipes. I think Black Sun's is the best, you think another is. But we're both going to play both of them, most likely. And probably two others as well.

I think you need to play more MBC. You do what works.
Mutilate is, in fact, more valuable as it answers more things than Damnation, this also applies to BSZ.
Why?
Because destruction is plentiful while efficient -X/-X is not nearly so.
I will gladly play something like Damnation earlier/for less value than I would hold on to Mutilate/BSZ. In the long game you need only to cast BSZ more than once to make it "better" than another removal spell. Dat-Recur is important.
I wouldn't presume to know how much mbc another person has played- I would hate to look foolish telling them they need to play more.
Bsz is worse than mutilate. It is niche compared to damnation. Harder to recur than kagemaro (I spend a tutor on it, luck into it or play planar portal? Not the poster child of efficiency). Doesn't draw cards like decree of pain. Can't selectively save my stuff or wipe non creatures like o-stone... heck, barter in blood has been situationally better then bsz would have been for me on more occasionas than I care to count. I will say I think bsz is better than hex or plague wind.
The negative counters are very good, but are worth more in multicolored decks not running white where mutilate underperforms.
So again, bsz is playable if one lacks options or is playing to its strengths. Meta game is a factor too- a lot of token eldrazi monument decks? Go go black sun!!

Or, alternatively, run both Black Sun's Zenith AND Mutilate , as well as Damnation and a slew of other wrath effects. I mean, that is what mono black in Commander is good at, other than making a bunch of mana and killing you in one shot.

Well, yeah... I wasn't saying not to run it, just run others first. I have my black suns waiting on the bench for the time when my meta calls for another sweeper in my monoblack. I really should put one into Damia though.
