@andoru:  If it's a regular group, why not just rotate who buys the packs each time you do a draft?  Then everyone knows who get the cards every time and you don't have the hassle of "undoing" the draft.

Didnt you split into 2 pods of 8?

Yeah, but all the rares from both pods were grouped together at the end.

Some do so more than others.

If you draft without redrafting, the only punishment for losing is... well, losing.  If you redraft the punishment increases to "Yeah, and that cool thing you pulled?  You don't get to keep it."

The redraft may be a useful tool for competitive environments to hone ever more advanced drafting skills, but it creates, in my opinion, an unnecessarily high barrier for entry.

At the end of three rounds of swiss, I tend to end up somewhere around 2-1.  I'm an upper-middle half kind of drafter, depending somewhat on how well I understand the format (I took first for the FNM card four weeks in a row during Morningtide's run).  My GF is more of a 1-2 sort of drafter (though, once it gets to actual games, possibly a better player than me)

In a redraft situation (Which, thank our lucky stars, is not how the local shop plays it), I'd be at par to losing and she;d be losing badly.  I'd never convince her to go to a draft like that, and you know what? I'd have a lot less incentive to try.

Because personally, I see an FNM draft as an alternative to just cracking three packs.  I get about three packs worth of goodies, and an evening worth of entertainment.  I'm never going anywhere on the competitive Magic scene and frankly, I don't want to either.

So for me, redrafting would just be a slap in the face.  I can see why some people like to engage in it, but I never would.

Redrafting is only a punishment if you for some strange reason expected to keep those cards. If someone did not tell you ahead of time that rares would be redrafted than you have reason to be upset.

I'll take a $10 draft with a redraft over a $15 draft with boosters as prizes. And that's something people are over looking: Either way the players who don't do well are contributing to the winner's prizes.

That makes no sense to me.

If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed?

Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch . YAY COLOR IDENTITY

I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.

A point could be made that the timing makes a rare redraft feel more like punishment.

Suppose that there there was a $10 tournament and, at the end of it, everyone who didn't win had to pay $5, which would then go to prizes for the winners.  This would probably feel a lot more punishing than a normal $15 draft.

You own a Card if you pick it in draft. Chances are most players will choose not to participate if they got a Rare they really want to keep. This destroys the purpose.

Usually, but a rare in a draft with redrafted prizes is a different story. If you don't want to redraft, don't enter the draft with redrafting in the first place. Problem solved.

Self-esteem focus. It means that everybody gets a trophy, making trophies meaningless.

If you meant "poor" as in "low-income", constructed formats will by definition punish poor players.
