So, the response article for this week's UR went up today: Spoiler:
Show
Yay.
Thoctar, could you create a new thread for it when the article comes life. I'd do it myself, but I'm generally asleep when it happens.
I'm asking because we're already 29 pages into this thread and the title isn't even accurate anymore. Shorter threads will allow newcomers to be less intimidated by the sheer bulk of our discussions. It also helps me going through discussion when I can't read it for a couple of weeks for whatever reason.
Even if one thread per Uncharted Realms is deemed to many, we could have a "Uncharted Realms: March" thread and still be more welcoming.
I honestly think that having a new thread for every discussion will only clutter up the forum and make it unbearable to look at. We need to strike a balance between "looking busy" to newcomers and not drowning ourselves in pointless threads when we have threads that already work for the discussion. I know if someone were to constantly make threads ove at Salvation, I'd start getting twitchy.
That being said, this one could stand to be retired.

Suggestion; We have a baseline Realms thread for discussing stand alones and the column as a whole, and we give particularly significant stories (about major story events, major characters) their own threads, such as the upcoming Domri story.

Why though? What does splitting the thread up really accomplish aside from the fact that good discussion points about certain stories will inevitably drop off the front page?
I know that you're trying to make this place look busier, but why are we trying so hard to kill good threads by splitting them up constantly? I just don't see the point when one thread will accomplish the discussion and other threads will have a half-life of a week before it ends up on another page never to be seen again.

Well how do you want to handle the Realms thread? This one's getting enormous.

Oh, I already said this one could stand to be retired. Tonight's as good a time as any... though truthfully, I feel like the first post should probably be more than just starting the discussion.
What do you think? Link to the UR archive and link to this thread in the first post?

I think that's agreeable.

I'm in favor of more thread splitting. You can only find the correct middle ground by exploring the edges, after all. And if someone feels like starting a new thread just go for it. Not everything needs democratic consensus.

I demand a punny name for each new thread though.

Jeez, Shakespeare loved conveluted syntax.

This is an amazing idea.

In the process, the clearing we call knowledge expands, but the more it expands, the longer its perimeter and the more ignorance comes into view." -Matt Ridley, Genome
