Soulcatchers' Aerie
Aven Mimeomancer

If you make the Aerie a creature, do the Mimeomancer's counters increase the buff from Soulcatcher's ability? I note that the Mimeomancer's ability only makes the creature a 3/1 if it itself places a counter on it.

no

er well sort of...

they are feather counters so yes the Aerie buff that affects bird creatures will get higher if you use the Mimeomancer trigger on it.

If you use the Mimeomancer trigger on Aerie, it will also create a continuous effect on the Aerie, setting P/T to 3/1 overriding whatever P/T it has from the animation effect that changed it to type creature.

note: Mimeomancer doesn't make the affected creature type bird so only your bird creatures will get the Aerie buff

also: the Aerie will not be a 3/1 with flying even if it has feather counters until the Mimeomancer puts a feather counter on it (the continuous effect happens as a result of the trigger that puts a feather counter on the creature, there is nothing inherent to feather counters)

Soulcatchers' Aerie will not get +1/+1 since it is not a bird ( Aven Mimeomancer just grants flying, it doesn't change the type)

Any feather counters the Aerie gets from the Mimeomancer's ability will increase the buff that the aerie gives to all birds.

Yep. Feather counters are feather counters, no matter where they came from.

121.1. (...) Counters with the same name or description are interchangeable.

Feather Counters are Feather Counters, so it will increase the bonus. However, the Aerie itself will not get it, since it will not be a Bird unless you involve some other Cards.

My question on this is that if Aerie is made a 3/1 creature, doesn't it lose it's previous ability to add to birds? Mimeomancer does not say "becomes a 3/1 creature with flying in addition to it's other abilities."

Is that the difference between using the wording "is a 3/1 creature" as opposed to "becomes a 3/1 flyer"?

The Mimeomancer doesn't say either.. it just says "is 3/1", which is merely a P/T setting ability, and "has flying", which grants an ability.

Check Turn to Frog , which is a P/T setting spell which also causes the target to forget what it used to be.

I missed that because the prior comments seemed to imply that one could use mimeomancer to put feather counters on aerie. But since Mimeomancer can only target creatures, it could not target Aerie unless Aerie became a creature some other way.

Thanks.

yes, we assumed he turned it into a creature before
otherwise the whole question doesn't make any sense
