True post count: 9,900 Thanks Wotc for not counting archived posts. If I post without capital letters than means I'm posting from my phone. For some reason it hates typing capital letters. Go_Texans on MTGO.

Eh. I'd be more adverse to that if they were trying to charge more than $10 each or if you had to keep buying them. But honestly? If you already have D12 and aren't a huge Planechase fan, there's really no reason to grab D13 anyways unless you are in it to play more decks and such.

It will add up when you've bought your 10th copy. Oh, and don't forget the extra money you might spend on packs.

Indeed it does. But as somebody who regularly spends at least $20/month of MtG just on attending FNMs, an extra $10-$20 once a year isn't really bad. For me at least I feel like I'm getting value. I've gotten at least a solid 20 hours out of each of the past DotP, and I expect to get a similar amount out of this one.
Now if they cranked the price to $20 or started just straight up reusing decks and opponents, I'd stop buying them. But as is it feels like I'm getting $10 worth of Magic out of each new version, even if it isn't exactly a new game. Honestly I think the main reason they go for a yearly release instead of a single game with expansions is that it allows them to alter as much of the core functionality each year as they'd like without worrying about having this increasingly bloated piece of software that gets more and more difficult to maintain.
I suppose it's worth adding that Magic isn't exactly cheap in the first place. Duels is cheaper than a single intro pack and is slightly cheaper than buying 3 boosters. As hobbies go, Magic is fairly expensive to begin with, and so I already have a bit of money I set aside each month for Magic related expenditures and over the summer months when I'm not at school and thus disconnected from one of my main playgroups that money tends to end up being spent on Duels instead.

A good way to start is to go to your local shop and ask if they have any spare commons and uncommons. Most shops that draft have mountains of these cards lying around. While these cards are generally subpar for tournament play they are the perfect cheap way to learn the game.
Even better, ask the store owner about the free 30 card starter decks.

Reached DCI Rating 1800 on 28/10/11. :D Sig

Not bad. But what happens flavor wise when one kamahl kills the other one?
Zis iz a sign uf deep psychological troma, buried in zer subconscious mind. By keelink himzelf, Kamahl iz physically expressink hiz feelinks uf self-disgust ova hiz desire for hiz muzzer. [/GermanPsychologistVoice]
That makes no sense to me.
If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed?

Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch . YAY COLOR IDENTITY
Is algebra really that difficult?
Survey says yes.
You want to make a milky drink. You squeeze a cow.
I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.

just be sure not to take everything the game does as gospel it has quite a few quirky rules implementation, mostly when it comes to timing and the big one that annoys me is that damage reduces toughness in that game
you could get Magic the Gathering Online and the Planeswalker decks in there, it's the same cards as Duels but you can build your own decks and the rules are correct. the interface is uglier, though
so in DOTP it reduces toughness you say. Does that mean that basically if you have a 2/2 attacking and they block with a 3/3 it SHOULDNT effectively take 2 toughness off of the blocker? If that is the case what sort of side effects does this cause that would not be legit in the real world?
