Modern may be enough for many people but I feel that it lacks a significant part of what makes the casual format fun. Invasion and Onslaught are getting left out. I also thought it'd be fun to have a format that included both the old stuff and also the new stuff that's been printed unofficially. Therefore I'm including Archenemy and Planechase as well as all of the Duel Decks.

As you may have guessed from the title; this means I'm including everything from the beginning of the new millennium onward. This is an eternal format with the new millennium as its starting point. (Invasion is included even though it came before the new year since it's part of the invasion block.)

Naturally this means that we're going to need to ban several of the older cards that were reprinted in these sets. I'm going to need help deciding on this banned list but I have a few preliminary ideas. If anyone would like to help playtest this new casual format I could certainly use the help. Mainly I'm going to need help testing the deck archetypes available in this format that would typically be considered broken.

Let me know what you think and if you'd like to help me test this format.

Here is a custom gatherer link for the cards in this format.

That was one of my initial thoughts as well. It's just a removal card. Good at what it does, absolutely. But not really abuse-able.

No no no. When you test you leave everything unbanned until one of your friends is a jerk and brings a bunch of broken crap, then you ban what they are abusing.

Additionally I'd like to add a custom rule where the sideboard is in the exile zone. Unfortunately this may be a problem with Misthollow Griffin around. Mainly I want the Wish cards to be able to get cards from both the exile zone and the sideboard.

Wish cards can't fetch cards from exile anyway so your proposed rule would make Wishes just flat-out not do anything in a tournament environment.

Wishes fetching cards from exile made sense when exile was called 'removed from game' and the whole point was that those cards weren't any longer in the game at all. But since that's not really the case any more- since cards in the exile zone are generally thought of as being inside the game these days- it no longer makes sense for them to do that, so they don't. If you think about it, if cards in exile were thought of as being outside the game, then stuff like Oblivion Ring couldn't work.

that rule is non-sense

currently Wishes can get cards from the sideboard, them being able to get cards from exile would make them way too powerful

So what broken crap is possible with no banlist? The first place I would look is the Legacy and Modern banlists but I'm too lazy to actually do that.

Are you aware they did get cards "removed from the game" when originally printed, up until the Magic 2010 rules changes?
