Ok, so I use to play magic years ago. I started playing right when 4th edition just came out but I quit shortly after Mirage was released because a lot of rules for play changed around then and most of the people I played with got mad and quit. I sold off all my cards like an idiot ( I had complete sets from Unlimited through Alliances ). But anyhow, I just got back into magic right before Avacyn released and I am having a hard time choosing a deck type that fits me. Back in the day I use to play red/green with the following list. 4 Goblin Balloon Brigade 4 Ball Lightning 4 Kird Ape 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Elvish Archers 4 Blood Lust 4 Giant Growth 4 Lightning Bolt 4 Wild Growth 1 Fork 1 Berserk 1 Forcefield 1 Black Lotus 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Emerald 4 Taiga 7 Mountain 7 Forest This was my main decklist (not including sideboard) and I loved playing this deck. It was a very consistant turn 3-4 Kill against almost anything in play then. The look on someone's face when you droped a ball lightning, blood lust, berserk, fork on turn 2 (which I only did once) was priceless. So anyhow here I am now back in the world of magic and my problem is this...I have no idea what the hell to play in my deck!!! As you can see I love to play fast aggro. and red /green are my favorite colors for the mana ramp and fast direct damage. I just can't find a deck out there that suits my play style in standard so I'm looking for advice on what should I play? The shop I get to go play at for FNM however is full of a lot of very skilled players (one in the top 50 in the state in plainswalker points) and it's a fair drive away. I don't get to socialize with them much and get tips from my local players so I am turning to you guys for help. What type of deck should I play? I have been looking at the "red deck wins" and "wolf run ramp" style of decks but they just don't seem to have the appeal to me of the deck I use to run. Which is extreamly expensive and outdated and I understand that. I have tried some reanimator style decks as well as some combo decks and they just don't get me going either...I feel kinda stuck without some sound advice. BTW I know that the deck I posted is a Legacy format...The shop I play at has legacy events but I want into standard because frankly I can't afford to drop $2000 on a deck. Also that is the format most played at the shop I go to.

As an added note here is a standard decklist that I am playing around with that I kinda like to maybe give a better idea of what I am looking for. 4 Stromkirk Noble 4 Stormblood Berserker 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Wandering Wolf 4 Wolfir Silverheart 4 Titanic Growth 4 Incinerate 4 Pillar of Flame 4 Vexing Devil 4 Abundant Growth 10 Forest 10 Mountain I stayed away from using anything outside of the Innastrad block as things will be rotating soon enough and I want a deck concept that I can play with as well as improve once the new block comes out in oct. Plus with the birds and abundant growth I have enough mana fixes just incase. My thought here was to get a good early game but if it goes on, the silverhearts should give me enough power to punch through late game as well as the titanic growth and I think I have enough removal for early game to stay ahead. any constructive criticism however is greatly appreciated.

Welcome back to the game. I got back into magic after a 14 year hiatus as well. Now for a deck type..... Its hard to say because the game is so different from those days. I have been playing Red Deck Wins and it is starting to work out for me quite nicely now. I would suggest WRR or a Red/Green aggro deck based off what you wrote above. The aggro is more geared towards newer cards, but try to get 4 Huntmaster of the fells . They are the top red/green aggro card pretty much. another deck you may want to look at is a red/white humans deck. It is pretty quick as well.

I thought about using the Huntmaster instead of the Silverheart but I thought that the Silverheart would work better. My reason was even though it's casting is 1 colorless higher, I end up with a larger creature plus a +4/+4 on another creature such as the birds if my opponent has fliers or the stormblood after using a vezing devil to create damage which makes him 7/7. Plus I don't have to sit on my hand for a turn to flip the huntmaster so I can continue to hit with direct damage or cast creatures as fast as possible. Still it might be a good option to have them in the sideboard incase I'm running against faster decks.

Above posters are idiots. Please ignore them. If you want a reliably good deck, try one of these: www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.a.... Or look for the thread in this forum named "blood pain zombies". It's made by mrindigo, he's a decent deckbuilder, and his decks don't contain bad cards like titanic growth, vexing devil, and wandering wolf (they are all weak by modern standards) Also, for a better advice-reception experience, assume that everyone here without 1000+ posts is an idiot. It will save you from spending obscene amounts of money on horrible cards and decks.
1000th post November 26, 2010. Where Islands gets his decks: Spoiler:
Show
It was revealed to me in a dream. All the cards were in my dream except for three slots which I plugged in as Vault Skirge.
FULL DISCLOSURE: The dream was post AVR so there was a copy of Slayer's Stronghold. I decided to keep it pre AVR in my post here.
EDIT: I just remembered. The Skirges might have been 2x Whipflare and 1x something else, probably War and Peace.
EDIT2: Currently 4-0 in my first four games with this. My opponents have been very angry. I fought off a Wurmcoil from Grixis for six turns before I found my second Dispatch. Jeez, I can do a lot of damage.
EDIT3: Streak broken. Lost to an unexpected Overrun. Cracking a Shrine for 10 wasn't enough.
How Kedi tests his decks: Spoiler:

also, I've been playtesting this deck in my sleep today that kinda freaked me out

Join date also factors into that. The whole old boards into Gleemax into new boards conversion screwed over a lot of members in terms of post count. And in my case, my handle is different now as well. But to be honest, I should be going on about 10,000 posts and Indy should be at about 20,000.
Edit: And before that, Indy was known as Ascetic72, and that account had a few thousand posts as well.

Anyway, some peole just don't like to post a lot.
Sounds like you would work well with R/G ramped aggro. Pretty simple concept.

Well I am sorry I sound lime such an idiot. I was just trying to offer him some deck ideas to look at. But I guess offer him a PTQ top 8 list..... If this is a new player aaking for advice why are you sending him a list that is dominated by delver decks? Not a good deck for a newer player. Besides catowner, I would think a persons tournament standings would say more about their ability as a player and not the number of posts they have written.

For those offering constructive ideas, thank you. If I wanted to play something that everyone else plays... sure I could go get a decklist of players on the pro level and just copy it. That dosn't mean it will fit my play style, meta, or have anything in it that others won't expect. To me an idiot is a person that has one possible solution to a problem that has thousands of answers. Sure those are good decks. That's why the are on the pro circut. That however dosn't mean that someone else can't come up with a idea for a deck that is competitive for their play style, skill level, meta, and most importantly that they can have fun playing. Frankly I don't care if I lose 10 matches back to back. If I have fun evolving my own deck concept to a competitive level rather than just copying someone else's design I will atleast have a sense of pride in saying "yea I built that" instead of "yea I spent $350 bucks copying a deck I found on the internet and ordering singles from (insert website here). So for all of you that have ideas please keep them coming and for those of you that just want to feel better about yourself by telling everyone else how stupid they are, go play on your xbox against all the other 8 year old kids. I'm sure you'll fit in there nicely.

Truth
That was rather rude CatOwner-you're better than that.
And vexing devil is not a bad card for RDW at all...
R/G has tons of options other than kessig wolf run and huntmaster as I'm sure you've seen. This might be something you just need to evolve on your own and experiment with. Plus with SOM rotating in the near future, decks are about to change drastically.
