So, now that the whole set's been spoiled, what do we think of this guy?
Personally, I don't think he has enough support to be worth it. For whatever reason Wizards has still only given us a single 1-drop Vampire for standard, and it's red, which of course doesn't play nice with this guy. Having Vampire Nighthawk back is definitely a step in the right direction, but still not enough to make mono-black Vampires a thing I don't think.
Are there Vampires in Ravnica?
Nocturnus and Nighthawk aren't nearly enough to make vampires a relevant tribe in standard.

Yes. Moroii and Szadek, Lord of Secrets .
The question is, will Ravnica vampires be given the new treatment, and made a genuine tribe, or will it be like Scars block where, in just the second year of the new tribe, the support it gets is all of three cards, none cheaper than four?

I'm tired of vampires... yawn. They haven't done anything great as of late. Just same old boring blood suckers. Red vamps were cool I'll admit. But no need to bring the tribal back so soon. In fact feels like black has exhausted its tribals in the last few sets.
I know, they need to bring skeliton tribal to power!

yeah because in a mono black deck that just controls everything, a 5/4 flying finisher for 4 is just awful...just because the last set of vampires were turbo aggro doesn't mean the new ones have to be...

This is very true, however not having a 1 drop of any sort really hurts the deck in today's environment. Unless people run Duress/Despise/Tragic Slip as their "1 drops".

Either way, I hope the vamps are as rare on Ravnica this time as they were last time.
Going from one to "Suddenly; Vampires!" was weird to me...

Dont forget Skeletal Vampire as well.
"I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am a God."

You mean, from one to a big, bad, numerous three. Whoo. Mephidross sure was busy in the centuries since we visited his home. He sired three whole vampires.
Seriously, though, I'm sick of staggering the support for vampires. Zendikar fortunately had enough support on its own to build a vampire deck, but I sat through the entirety of Scars without a single new card for the deck. And now, Innistrad doesn't have nearly enough to support mono-Black vampires on its own, so they hopefully give the deck some support in Return to Ravnica.
