I was recently playing a game where I was down to one life and my opponent had three life. I attacked for 7, and no blockers were declared. My opponent then played divine deflection, from avacyn restored, with x being 1 to prevent 1 damage and shoot it back at me. Question is, who wins the game? Does he - since his spell resolved and I would take 1 damage and be down to 0 Do I - since my gu;ys have to hit before he can truly prevent damage taking him down to -3 Or is it a draw?

The game is a draw. Both of you have less than 1 life after combat damage is dealt, so both of you lose the game at the same time.
And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real. --Erin McKean, Redefining the Dictionary

Thanks Zamm, we couldn't decide who would take the shot first, much less when our life points were checked to determine the outcome. I guess a draw is better than a loss!
