Ive been testing it for the past few days on and off, among other things, and its actually not doing too bad. Stromkirk noble can get out of hand if he isnt dealt with. Incinerate deals with that stupid wolf with regen. Tibalt and shrines in the side help in the control matchup (if its really there?). Pillar of flame is alright for getting rid of solemns and strangleroots. All around the deck seems solid. Even if they side in timely reinforcements, an unmiraculous bonfire can make it way less good for 3 mana.

Thoughts? Could rdw be ready for a comeback?

RDW is always an okay deck.

The issue is that it frequently doesn't out-percentage other aggressive decks in the format at the time. RDW's largely (but not entirely) outclassed by RG Aggro at the moment.

It's really not even about giving niche cards to black.

It should be about giving black cards to Niche.

Pure red is in a odd place right now. It has the drops but nothing TOO good to be the overwhemling force it can be at times.

Its big thing in haste seems to be getting pushed to the side or put all in the same CC bracket so you have to choose what creature you want to use, since it out tempos other decks if it gets too much.

Untill Chandras Phoenix came out I would have said that red didnt have a decent three drop, but then they printed lingering souls/delver which negated any advantage there.

I get why non varient pyroclasm hasent been printed since this is the season of the weenie... but I belive we have gone too far in the weenie direction that we now need a answer thats relatively cheap and efficant. Whipflare just means that Tempered steel becomes a force to be recconed with.

Pillar of flame and incinerate I'm fine with. I do hope they put shrine of buring rage and choose maybe 2 others for the core set. Shrine is something reds needed against the control matchup in standard for awhile. Well that is unless they keep giving it card advantage/filtering like they have been. Classic red runs out of gass quicky if it has to respond to multiple threats, Dangerous Wager was a great card for red.

Yeah its gonna be a hard hit against red losing Koth and the Shrine of Burning Rage when the mirrodin block rotates out.

Well, tibalt kind of fills the role that shrine will leave open in the control match. And I would say that koth (maybe?) has been replaced already by Hellrider . Koth wont get there vs agro, so hes a SB option now. I would even argue that hellrider is better in the 4 spot. If hes the last man standing hes the same damage as koths mountain, but if you have a full board hes quite possibly a topdeck win. Since removal is light right now, I think hes a pretty good option.

Tibalt is in NO way a replacment in shrine. Its in the same CC range of course, but what shrine did to control was give it inevitability in one big pulse when red decks petered out. Or  the ability to remove a non hexproof problem creature. Tibalt gives you filtering yes and the ability to do dmg based upon hands size, but depending on the style of control hand size could be minimal. That and defending a artifact is much easier than defending something that can be hit by creatures.

I said it fills the role that will be left when shrine rotates. The role being a non attack-based damage engine. Of course they dont do the same exact thing, but their goal is similar. Also, he can be attacked, but he cant be ancient grudged, so its an advantage there. And red has ways to manipulate opponent hand size. I have a feeling that Reforge the soul could be a good way for red to get its hand back, and tibalt is a means to make the downside of giving your opponent a grip a little less. This is mostly theory. Red has an uphill battle as long as Timely reinforcements exists.

Tibalt's primary function won't be his -4 ability. It'll be his +1 ability. And no, being attacked over not being a target of Ancient Grudge isn't an advantage. He will primarily be turning your crappy top-decks into less-crappy ones in 95% of cases. But comparing Tibalt to Shrine of Burning Rage is just plain wrong, sorry.
Mono-red isn't a deck right now, and probably won't be even with the release of M13. The problem isn't just Timely Reinforcements, its also Lingering Souls and the fact that you can play multiple colors and kill just as fast as mono-red and get the options of other colors.
