seal of doom
ambush viper
landslide
akki raider

In a game tonight, I cast landslide . My opponent was at 12, and I sacked all 5 of my mountains to deal 5 to my opponent. That gave my Akki Raider +5/0, giving him a power of 7, which was now my opponent's life total. I attacked him with the Akki.  He had no blockers and I had out a seal of Doom . He flashes in Ambush Viper .  He said he could declare it as a blocker before I had a chance to respond with my Seal of Doom

Who is right?

You still have a chance to activate seal of Doom before blockers are declared.  Both players have to pass on an empty stack before beginning the next step.

And he had to cast the Viper in the declare attackers step, right?  If he had waited until the declare blockers step, tthen he passed his chance to block because that is the first thing he has to do, right?  I kept saying this.  he kept saying he waited until declare lockers started, then cast Viper. When it resolved, he retained priority to block so i could not destroy it.

You are correct.

The latest he'd be able to cast the creature and block with it is during the declare attackers step, after attackers are declared. The first thing that happens during the declare blockers step is blockers are declared. And then you'd always be able to destroy it before moving on to the declare blockers step.

… and then, the squirrels came.
