Version three, with a subtly different frame:

PS.  I want to do the same effect with "wedge" tri-colors too, but I think it's pretty much impossible to get the three colors on the frame in the proper order for something like using MSE.  Printing it in the "right" order just doesn't match up either, since white-black-red-white doesn't make sense.  I'm already working on a custom Planeswalker template, so this set is proving to be pretty photoshop-intensive.

I still ant to see what it looks like with the hybrid and gold reversed- hybrid piping and gold background. White text boxes of course. The effect would probably be most striking with something other than white though since it's such a neutral color. I bet a black text box on a gold background would catch a few eyes.

Well, apart from the fact that it'd be a three-color blend, it would look basically the same as every gold frame they print these days.  Starting with Ravnica, every two-color card has a gradient-colored piping and text box.  Here's a sample though:

I think the difference is too subtle.  I don't think most players would even notice the solid colored red textbox vs. the usual blended colors.

And just because, here's the same card with the tri-brid frame:

Hybrid blend

This version seems much more likely to catch the eye.

(I'm still not sure if I want to distribute these throughout the set, or just do a ten-card cycle through each "shard" and "wedge".  Oh, and the Brigand is probably really undercosted, I just whipped up something fast and didn't look too closely :P)

Yeah, I was caught up in the frame design and kinda goofed on the cost.  Five mana maybe.
I like it better as a 2/3 too.  Attacking for 10 with no outside help is a bit much.

What I meant was that in the above example it would have a text box, p/t box, typeline and name/mana cost boxwith a red background  since it can be cast for just red and piping that was white and blue but not red with a gold background for the card overall. It occurs to me now though that text boxes at least are all very close to white in color (I suppouser a black text box with black text wouldn't work too well).

Ah, I see.  One more attempt then:

Gold version 2

Turns out a bit disappointing though.  Funny, I expected that the type line and title had a bit more color to them, but they just end up sort of pink rather than red.  Turns out that pretty much everything with text or symbols on it is a pale washed-out tint, and the only places with nice vibrant color are the outside edges.  Weird how they create the impression that the entire card is brightly colored, when in fact it's mostly not.

It is funny how that works huh? Well I guess I'll put that idea to bed, it turned out quite a bit worse than I hoped.
