I played from Revised until Mercadian Masques. Life just got too busy with college. I saw Time Spiral block and was very interested in that, and particularly the color-shifted cards in Planar Chaos, in a link someone had on a message board. Took a couple more years, but eventually came back just before Alara Reborn was released.
The end is always nigh.

I can't really remember when I started, but since my first ever deck was from Scourge (it was called "Pulverize," a good deck in hindsight, but kinda difficult to learn on) and that was released May 2003, I had to have been at least 9. I saw some decks in the store that may have been Mirrodin, however, in which case I'd have been 10. Anyway, I played off and on from then on and got some random cards here and there. I only had a few friends who played, and most of the ones I tried to teach seemed more interested in Yu-Gi-Oh (o_0). I remember getting a starter deck from Scourge (the afformentioned Pulverize), Mirrodin (some artifact-eating red-black with lots of Atogs and a Megatog; also my favorite for a long time) and Ravnica block (a Golargi deck). I after this point I kinda fell away, getting random cards here and there (including a couple from 11th Edition) as there was no one to play against. I started getting hyped up before Innistrad (my favorite set flavor-wise so far) and due to the release of Duels 2012 (finally had a way to play Magic without a physical opponent) and bought one of those Deckbuilder's Toolkits. When Innistrad came out I went ahead and got the Vampire started and begun constructing a deck around that. I also managed to (finally!) find some friends who played, and now I'm pretty much back into it (I even played the recent Pre-Release, my first ever event). I'm thinking of getting some Mirrodin Besieged cards and (when it comes out) Return to Ravnica for a bit of nostalgia for when I was a kid and had no idea what the game was all about. Addendum: I made my avatar Ajani Vengeant because I got exactly one Alara-block booster for Christmas back during my Magic apostecy. Guess who was in it?
